yes i know. they are just ok.

ok, heavy suggestion time now

TRIVIUM!!!
all their albums are completely different.
Ascendancy has a very hardcore vibe to it. big solos here
The Crusade - sounds just like metallica! very good. very thrash metal feel
Shogun - a mix of the previous 2 albums big solos and metallica style vocals, mixed with the hardocre screaming. id say it is their best album

knock yourself out

Trivium? Are you serious? Why don't you just tell him to rub **** into his ears? It's cheaper and more economical.

Trivium is a shitty, shitty **** shit **** shit band. Don't listen to this tripe.

Clearly you don't play an instrument properly.

Death metal is really damn hard to play, especially good death metal bands like Death, Nile and Psycroptic. Aside from the sheer length of the songs, most of the times the guitarist also sings so they're pretty frigging talented.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcL3AH7v53g

Heafy is just a mediocre guitarist and a **** singer who thinks he's really cool and trendy and awesome and all the girls love him when in reality the only people who love him are those poser fucks.

Well if something sounds good and means something, its acceptable to like. The guitarist does not need to fit into a certain league of excellence in order to enjoy

That's not the point. You said death metal bands were talentless, not enjoyable - there's a difference.

I can think of one brilliant example supporting your statement, however. Dream Theater - each member is a master of their instrument, but together they make just mediocre, boring music.

i dont like heafy either. and death metal, while i agree it is difficult to play, sounds like a bunch of angst-y teenagers raping guitars.
i just dont see why we all have to be so negative. metal is like politics. we all have an opinion, and no matter what anyone else says or does, it is very rare our opinions will change

Harsh words brute
In Flames is mostly death metal or they are most commonly classified as that
And I cannot think of any teenage death metal bands
I think you may be confusing death metal with metalcore
Your description sounds more like metalcore, as you scarcely see 30 year olds playing that ****

no, i mean like death and black metal is so annoying. Job for a cowboy, necrophagist. imortal.

you know. i really didnt mean to call them angst-y teens. but i just dont get how people can appreciate it is all. i guess mincedsquirrel's harsh attitude is starting to rub off on me

and im cool with metalcore. that one band, Bring me the horizen - SUCKED!!! but i like All that remains, trivium, and shadows fall, maybe some atreyu here and there, but that is as far metalcore as i will go. i just dont like the seriousness and the attitude that black and extreme death metal have. i like to be awed by music, not have the feeling of having my ears raped

After seeing the description of 'metalcore' I'd say I'm more of a fan of that over death/black metal...BUUUUTT if In flames is considered death metal then sign me up! lol Honestly I don't think once specific genre suits anybody...with all music it just depends on the listener. There are some 'GREAT' 'EPIC' 'enter your word choice here' songs that some think are amazing and I might think they suck lol

I guess to each their own is what I'm trying to say lol

I think I understand what you mean. You want music that makes you feel good. Of course metal doesn't come to mind for most people as "feel good" music but it's true. Every time I hear Iron Maiden it pretty much makes me feel good. There are many others. Death metal and black metal don't seem to make a person feel good as much. They make you feel kind of weighted. For me I actually can feel good listening to them, but it's certainly harder than feeling good listening to metalcore.

(A teenage death metal band is...decapitated?)

Maybe give the band Kreator a try.

Most of those bands are "Brutal Death Metal" which is a bit different from more traditional death metal like Hate Eternal, Monstrosity, Morbid Angel, Obituary, etc. Brutal death metal is one of the hardest things to like. I still don't really fully enjoy it except for maybe here and there.

I actually like a lot of the instrumentals for death metal but the vocals just kill it for me. I don't like not being able to understand them or listen to somebody who sounds posessed. Idk Brutal Death Metal is a stretch even for the instrumental part. lol

not being christian, i wouldnt know. they way i figure it, you can listen to whatever music you want. acting out horrible things make you a bad person, not listening to the music.

and brutal death metal is not for me.
so give me other death metal bands. Death (the band) is decent, but what are some other non-brutal death metal bands that ya'll enjoy

Well there is always melodic death metal I suppose. That's probably one of the most successful sub-genres ever. I have a really good melodic death metal song planned for my next list.

Brutal death metal can be very talented. Wormed is pretty insane.

I don't mind anti-religious lyrics in the artistic sense but in the serious sense I don't like them for various reasons. Mainly it's hatred towards a large group of people based on the "bad ones" and second the band members probably couldn't even stand their ground in a civilized conversation.

HateYou1st: Yeah man those are all really cool bands. I even got the album Jugulator when I was in Middle School and digged it. I think I've only bought 2-3 albums in my life. I think I got 2 albums as gifts. One was Rising Force by Yngwie Malsteem. That one was pretty cool. The other was cover songs of Iron Maiden done by various extreme metal bands. That one was okay but some of the songs were butchered. But I still liked it, some of the covers were good. Bands like Opeth did justice to the band.

Wow, a lot of replies. I'll try and make my way through them as best as I can:

brutality: The angst-y teenagers bit confused me, to be frank. Aside from the fact that very few successful death metal bands are fronted by teenagers, most death metal that's actually good has a sense of "epic-ness" and brutality - just intended to be a VERY sharp contrast from all the mainstream, bullshit pop music. There are definately some very good death metal bands, but at the same time I agree that death metal CAN be one of the most generic and boring genres in music. Also, Job for a Cowboy and Necrophagist are NOT good death metal bands so I don't see why you're regarding them as a good example. The corpse paint stuff is bullshit, I agree. That's why my favourite black metal band is Anaal Nathrakh (check them out). Also I have to just add that melodeath is mostly generic **** and is as bad if not WORSE than most brutal death metal. Honestly, I listen to Heartwork by Carcass and that's pretty much it for me as far as melodeath goes.

BYD: I have to agree that the corpse paint and dead bodies, anti-Christian and sacrificed animals and all that fake bullshit is really irritating and it really grates the overall effect of black metal and it's really not necesssary. But regardless, some of my favourite black metal bands adopt this moniker (Gorgoroth, just as one example) and I just tend to ignore all the stupid ideals and the "hidden message" of burning churches and all that. Honestly, I prefer most apocalyptic, "doomsday" style of black metal (Anaal Nathrakh) as opposed to the rather ridiculous "Satanic" style (Mayhem, Marduk).

VR: Again, I must agree that brutal death is mostly quite **** tbh. Aside from the classics (like the bands you mentioned - Obituary, Morbid Angel etc.) I don't go about hunting for Brutal death metal because frankly it's just not as creative or interesting as any black metal. I also have to point out that melodeath is only successful because all the "metalheads" that really just like all the mallcore shite and want to look more "underground" and "kvlt" listen to melodeath.

hateyou1st: Again, your outlook on death metal is totally blurred. You're listening to all the "popular" (if such a thing even exists) death metal bands, most of which are really quite generic and boring (I can't STAND Hate Eternal or Monstrosity or much Cannibal Corpse, because it just bores me to sleep) - I think perhaps you should try listening to some more, less well known, bands such as Mithras and Psycroptic.

oh yea I didn't mean that it reflected the type of person you are. I know some christians who are d*cks and some goths who look like vampires who are some of the coolest people I know lol

I was just joking because I like slayer and I think one of their albums is 'God hates us all' and then being a christian...

LOL it's like being a fireman singing the song 'The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire...we don't need no water let that muthaf***er burn..burn...etc'

i dont like heafy either. and death metal, while i agree it is difficult to play, sounds like a bunch of angst-y teenagers raping guitars.
i just dont see why we all have to be so negative. metal is like politics. we all have an opinion, and no matter what anyone else says or does, it is very rare our opinions will change

i never said they are angst-y teenagers, i said they sound LIKE angst-y teenagers. english-wise speaking, i love similes. they are my fav. smilisfav lol

ill look at the non popular death bands (oddly, that makes sense to me) but im not promising anything. because as ive told you, they can play like god's but the vocals can ruin it for me

Kerry King is firmly atheist. And he co-writes lyrics.

Plus Slayer aren't as firm believers in what they write as some black metal bands.

If you think about it, the most number of Satanic songs were on Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits, both of which were majority written by King (advocate atheist) and Hanneman (crusading war nut). The Araya input saw more philosophical, real stuff go into their lyrics.
