PostSubject: Song List 3   Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:00 am

Wow! For once I felt like I had way too many options. I recommend drinking some coke or coffee or something before going through this list because it is a little long and has some pretty energetic and technical songs. I went for a different format this time. Instead of the starting out easy, going hard, and ending easier I made it a bit more sinister and depressing. Of course it won't always be like that but like I said this is just based on my tastes. The only difference is I try purposely to put in variety instead of repeating old favorites and the same bands over and over. There are a couple songs I put in here *purely* for the purpose of making the song list progress, most notably the Between the Buried and Me song. I know it probably isn't your thing but if you skip it then you'll miss the point and the ending of the song, which is nothing like the beginning. I have a couple repeats in here which is good for the list as far as I'm concerned, just not maybe for exposing a large variety. Once again the list is predominantly black and death metal. I will try to add some more genre variety into future lists, especially thrash metal which I know I am totally leaving out. I would honestly go back and add in some good thrash songs right now but it's already so long and formatted that I'll just save it for another time. Like I said...lots of options. There is a new website I have to find songs with, imeem, which is making life easier. Instead of using only imeem or youtube I decided to use both so I wouldn't have to compromise my intentions for the sake of convenience. I did *however* not put any songs that require you to sign up for imeem. Luckily none were excluded for this reason. Anyways the list...

breakyoudown: Thanks for the euphemism. There were some better Iron Maiden songs to put but I put that one because I thought someone might not know of it.

brutality, thynameismetal: It was the first Iron Maiden album I heard.

MincedSquirrel: I know it's not the best but I wasn't so much aiming to make it the best as I was for making it different. I probably put an over-emphasis on variety. What is it that you don't like about Necrophagist and The Faceless? Just curious. There will be a 4th list and I probably won't be as conservative with my choices for it. I'm not going to go for variety so much on it either.

Necrofagist is a shitty, shitty band. There's a million reasons why but this simplest one is this - it's not death metal. It's not even close. It's jsut some technical wankery **** with some wannabe-guitar-god who goes up and down a scale for a minute, crappy vocals and some boring hyperblasting drummer. I don't want to put myself through half an hour of that.

Also I have yet to hear any decent songs by The Faceless. Just another tech-deathcore clone band - they play the guitars, they wear the shirts, but they don't get the point of actually making proper FCUKING music.

I do like technical wankery from time to time. I agree that it isn't music if you are thinking of music as something like Death. It's not music at all compared to something like that, but I do enjoy it from time to time despite that fact.

Personally I don't really have a problem with deathcore as long as it doesn't go for too many breakdowns etc. More than one breakdown per song and it starts to get a little ridiculous. One breakdown per song doesn't hurt that bad, even if it was just complete silence. I'm more of the kind of person who tries to like the best of each genre.

i like 10 breakdowns per song, just as long sa it isnt dragon force
well, maybe not ten, but 2 or 3 is always good
or the best part, when a solo sounds like it is done, but then it morphs into something faster and way more brutal

That reminds me of one of the favorite things I like bands to do. Sometimes bands build up a sort of chorus or something and then suddenly break it and move onto something else awesome. I noticed that a lot in Immortal. I don't know why but "breaking the pattern" really enhances the experience for me...as long as when the pattern is broken it moves onto something else that is also awesome.

I don't like The Faceless also because all these deathcore bands have really spazzy production (it's too clean and overproduced) so I can't really listen to them for long.

I suggest if you like technical wankery check out Behold... The Arctopus or Obscura (the new album by Obscura is available to stream for free from their website).

http://www.obscuracosmogenesis.com/

I reckon I'll make a list soon too. I doubt everything I want to be in there will be because most of the obscurish stuff I listen to is not on YouTube or all those other websites.

Yeah Obscura is insane. That album is seriously so raw that it's hard for me to even get into it. I read the lyrics and they fit the rawness perfectly. I just get the feeling that making that album was some sort of lifeless hell. At the same time it's something you can't really get away from either.

Please do make a list though, even if it's just a short one. The first is always the easiest!

Edit: That first band you mentioned is pretty kick ass. Thanks.
