PostSubject: A Guilty Idea   Mon Mar 09, 2009 3:32 am

I came up with the idea of organizing entire albums for you guys to listen to. Listen once and if you want to listen again then buy it! I just did two albums for now -- one that everyone should hear and one that I did for myself to hear.

Wintersun by Wintersun (without the extra demo songs)
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=2907C509FBF173E9
-Listen to it if you haven't already. I simply love this stuff. It's amazing. It sweeps you off your feet and takes you away from the troubles of your life. It makes me feel really good when I listen to it.

Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler by Ulver
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=AEF9A226175818A3
-This is a black/folk metal album which I am listening to right now (on the third song) and I like it a lot. Give it a try but it is a slower listen. I just have to say the album art is my absolute favorite. Amazing atmosphere throughout. If you listen to the whole album then the last song is amazing.

Pitch Black Progress by Scar Symmetry
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7C73CD3956F7E554
-Thanks to Brute for providing this.

Nattens Madrigal - Aatte Hymne til Ulven i Manden by Ulver
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5C739B8C1F08C059
-The third album by Ulver. At first I thought their first album, Bergatt, was their main achievement as far as metal went. Well, I was wrong. This has got to be the rawest black metal I've ever heard. I had no idea they would have an album like this. I knew it was raw but I didn't know it was raw and evil and black; I thought it was just crappy production. I haven't heard this album yet but it might even be better than their first. One thing is for sure, it's a lot longer (44 minutes).

In the Nightside Eclipse by Emperor
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C7B5517BD689C582
-A classic and highly recommended. This includes the bonus songs at the end. The total time is just short of one hour.

Currently I'm not going to organize these. If I start to do a lot of them and it gets messy then I will organize them. I'll always put a quick comment for each one.

Edit: Really enjoyed the Ulver album. Heard it twice (I'll buy it when I turn 18 probably). I read one guy left it in his CD player for an entire year. I want to play it again but it's getting late...just one more time please? I'm going to regret it...here it goes.

The idea was to make it to where you could hear a whole album online without having to download the songs or anything.

Yeah Ulver is starting to kill my tastes. Since the moment I started the album yesterday I've only listened to Ulver. I think this is my 6th play through -- lost count. I'm going to try to play something else even though it doesn't feel right.

Alright I will when I get back from eating.

Yeah Ulver has changed. I heard some of their newer stuff and I can't get into it much. There was like one or two songs that I liked some. Their first three albums seem cool but I haven't heard the second and third much yet. Their first album (for reference, the one I posted) is really deep.

EDIT: Album added! (Album #4 03/09/09)

Brutality that was a pretty good album. I probably couldn't get into it that much because I had been spamming Ulver play-throughs (still am) but from what I heard it seemed to mix a lot of the immediately enjoyable parts of metal throughout a long and diverse album. If I ever have a friend who isn't very familiar with metal I might recommend him to take a look at this band alongside a few others. For some reason I thought Scar Symmetry was pure metalcore. Maybe they were in the past, but that album had some variety to it.

no they are sweedish melo death. it is soo damn good. the guitar sometimes sounds like keyboards.

and the crazy thing...THE CRAZY THING is that it was only one singer. he does the deep growls and the high singing parts CRAZY!! he has since left *tear*

and if you want sth a little more hardcore. please look at their first album, Chaosweaver. still has all the great part, but with a slight twinge, ever so slight, of black metal vocals. a little raspy at times. but dont take it as black metal by any means

i hope i get some fans

Nattens madrigal is...a masterpiece...its like...the transilvanian hunger of Ulver...its raw repetitive and agressive...almost no drumming...guitar riffs are spooky almost cryptic....

Hail Ulver...

Sweet I just started. Sounds really good.

EDIT (Done): Yeah that was really awesome. I don't have a pick between the two, both are masterpieces but unique in their own ways.

EDIT: Heard the second album too now, so that's their first three albums. It was a lot slower but the last song is really good. I might listen to it again some time. Maybe I'll listen to all three in a row, that sounds epic.

You know after hearing this it makes me wonder what I've been missing. I know the basics of black metal and many of the non-populars but I never heard of Ulver until just recently. Anything else you think I might have missed?

Actually I was talking about myself hahaha! I was listening to all three of the Ulver albums. I accidentally skipped over Immendia's links and later saw them and listened to them. I felt what I said was already applicable so I didn't repeat myself. I already commented on Brute's link.

UPDATED!

I forgot to comment about them for you because I already did so for MincedSquirrel. I'm busy at the moment but I'll get around to everything and let you know what I think. As for Sterbend I think they are pretty awesome. I kind of want to hear their songs in the proper order as they seem to be like the kinds of songs that would work out better like that.
