PostSubject: Dies Irae's List   Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:55 pm

So, this is what I've been listening to recently. Hope you enjoy.

Auspex. A light one to start. Beating Rhapsody at their own game, and featuring a great female vocalist who isn't an operatic whore:
http://www.myspace.com/auspexmusic

Dead Congregation. Amazing old school, death metal evilness:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=115983735

Hammers of Misfortune. Shame on you if you don't know them already. Listen to Trot Out the Dead:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=2470857

Kalisia. Best progressive band ever. Period:
http://www.myspace.com/kalisia

Cobalt. Black metal in the straight forward, kick your arse, traditional sense. War Metal!:
http://www.myspace.com/stinktown666

Sickening Horror. The word in tech-death. George Kollias' band before Nile stole him:
http://www.myspace.com/sickeninghorror

Venturia. Because everyone has a bit of pop in them really:
http://www.myspace.com/venturiamusic

De Magia Vetereum. Oppressive stuff, but excellent once you start to absorb it:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=160626402

Crystalic. One of a very select few melodeath bands worth listening to:
http://www.myspace.com/crystalicband

Sahg. There's always room for some stoner goodness:
http://www.myspace.com/sahg

This doesn't even begin to fully represent my taste, but it's still all brilliant none the less...

Auspex is pretty good. Reminds me of Nightwish

Thanks for the welcome, though I'm uncomfortable with the Nightwish comparison. Still, as long as people like them. There are about 50 gazillion bands from France that no one seems to have heard of and a fair few are astonishingly good.

Auspex - Like it. I do like the female vocals a lot. Some really catchy riffs in there. Will definitely recommend.

Dead Congregation - Meh, it was alright. Above average, maybe I need to give them a few more listens. Nothing that really connected with me to start with. The vocals really grated on a lot. Nice riffs and drumming, but too generic for me.

Hammers of Misfortune - a little too overproduced for me. A little too... clean for my tastes. The vocalist isn't to my tastes either. I respect them, but I don't really like them that much.

Kalisia - Really, really awesome stuff. Thanks for this, dude. Sounds like Dream Theater crossed with Cynic, methinks... (only not quite as shitty as Dream Theater).

Cobalt - I liked it a lot. Really quite different to most of the popular black metal stuff. I will definitely keep an eye out for this.

Sickening Horror - Above-average to be honest. Too spazzy and choatic in bits, but then again, I suppose that's what most new tech-death is all about. The vocals are pretty crap, but I was pretty wowed by the guitarwork. Reminded me of grind. I wouldn't say I love them, but maybe I'd keep an eye on them.

Venturia - I liked it a fair bit as well. Quite catchy and pop-ish metal, but in doses I guess that's good.

De Magia Vetereum - Have yet to form a solid opinion. Pretty obscurish, no-nonsense stuff. Can't really decide on whether I loathe it or love it.

Crystalic - Meh. A little poor on first listen. I'll bookmark them and listen to them again later, when I'm less tired.

Sahg - Love it. You must recommend me more stoner stuff. I do like what I hear.

Cool. I'll probably do another list, that'll have more stuff up your alley Minced. I noticed you had Mithras in your list: good call. Oh, and my favourite band after Death, Negura Bunget. Both excellent choices.

Kalisia have actually done a ****ing great Cynic cover, with shitty voice, whassersname, from Arch Enemy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaOPXEr6JVk

With stoner, Grand Magus are the kings:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=53326682

You may recognise the vocalist from Spiritual Beggars, Janne Christoffersson.

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".

*points at Dies Irae* thats his job. Death metal is one of his things.

I'm into stuff like Deicide, Amon Amarth, Deep Vein, Kataklysm, Abhorrance, Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation, Death, Dislocation are a cool band from France, Heaving Earth are a really good new band,Morbid Angel and of course Suffocation. Yeah probably not a lot you haven't heard of.
