PostSubject: Something Classic # 9   Sat Apr 18, 2009 1:16 am

Okay, today's thread is huge. It's a Something Classic quadruple header, THE BIG FOUR OF THRASH!

Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica!

Possibly four of the most influential metal bands to ever come out, the big four helped define the metal we listen to today. We have Metallica, the band responsible for the mass popularization of the genre. Some say they sold out, but I say they just had a few sub-par albums. Black album had some pretty rocking tracks, even the albums Load, Re-Load, and St. Anger has some tracks that you can bang your head too. We have Megadeth, a band that is remembered for keeping the genre intact. They've had a massive, solid list of albums, and are still producing rocking tracks today. We have Slayer, a band that is responsible for the huge scene of darker metal we have today. Slayer pushed metal to the next level, producing an even eviler and darker sound than anyone before them. Then we have Anthrax, a band that is usually in the shadow of the others. Underrated in many ways, Anthrax has produced a few of the most memorable metal tunes. These bands presence CANNOT be denied. Metal would not be even remotely the same today if it was not for THE BIG FOUR OF THRASH!!!

Some of you guys are probably wondering why I do this, since a lot of people don't care about classic rock (although I'm sure each of you has a profound knowledge of each of these essential bands). I just wanted to rant a little about that lol. I think that it is important that we always remember the classics, because if it wasn't for stuff like Black Sabbath, Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc, where would we be? It's the guys like this that have the balls to do something so extreme and so different that give us the basis for the music we love. Even if the classics like this aren't your favorite, I think they definitely deserve respect from anyone who enjoys metal music, because we probably wouldn't have metal to enjoy if it wasn't for bands like this. There's my 2 cents worth lol, so enjoy the music!

Haha perhaps it is. Ok so lets debate some Anthrax. I just can't get into them @_@ everytime I hear a song that kicks my ass I hear one that doesn't are they just that hit and miss or do I just not like them lol. What songs do you suggest besides the ones you put here?

Definitely hit and miss. Some of their stuff is borderline hardcore punk, which is trash at it's simplest I guess. I own their album "persistence of time" and a lot of the songs are really short and really heavy. Here are a few more of my picks

Metal Trashing Mad - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5fF9Xv3Vrg

I'm Eighteen (Alice Cooper Cover) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzAuB59bnVQ

Got The Time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0Mgp4n9r58

A.I.R - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAbzbF219gE

Safe Home - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeXzlXE3WWM

Antisocial - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t0affoV5rI

I really like hardcore punk as I've stated before so I may very well like those.

Yeah let me know. Their first album would probably be your favorite, most of it sounds like "Death Rider" which is a rocking song

I'm sorry but imo that cover of 18 (one of my favorite songs) really blew like bad. Music was ok but the vocals were awful. Didn't like Metal Thrashing Mad either. Got the Time is good and I'm on A.I.R. atm let you know how the rest of the list goes in a bit.

Hmmm weird. Maybe they just aren't for you, that happens sometimes. There is always that one band that you don't like that you probably should. I'm like that with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, R.E.M, etc

Yeah I think it's that I don't like how the vocals mix in with the music on most of the songs. That's the conclusion I've come to anyway lol.

Okay another correction. Dan is their "new" vocalist, the vocalist for that was John Bush lol. He's gone now, but I think their new singer sounds similar lol. Look up the CD "The Greater of Two Evils". It is remakes of all of their classics with that singer. I'm downloading it as we speak because I love the remake of "Deathrider". and thanks a lot IB, I'm really glad you appreciate it
