It seems like there are always these bands that only talk about unhappy subjects. For example, this god-forsaken band called Shinedown only sings about this guys girlfriend leaving him and how he likes to cry about it. It really is quite annoying. Music needs to have a wide range of emotions, like happy, sad, angry, rebellious, and hopeful. Bands that only deal with depressing subject matter tend to get a little annoying sometimes. I mean, sometimes I want to hear music that is sorta depressing, but variety is the key, and I think a lot of bands are finally understanding that. One good example is Sonata Arctica. Their music is very uplifting, but it can also be about pain and the trials faced in everyday life. It shows the whole spectrum of emotions, not just one. To delve deeper into the musical aspect of it, the key and tempo is also another huge factor. The Cure is a band I really enjoy, but I think they would be a lot more enjoyable if all of their material wasn't in a minor key and super slow. That's a massive reason why I love The Doors. Their music is a MASSIVE range of styles, and has a wide range of themes. You have everything from fun, upbeat party songs to deep, driven anthems.

Umm yeah Shinedown don't just sing about that. As a matter of fact he's married has a kid and has a song about his kid. They have songs about battling suicide and winning. Not just about girlfriends and such. Sorry to sound like I'm an ass but I really don't like seeing bands misintrepreted.
