PostSubject: Video Game Soundtracks   Sat May 02, 2009 5:02 pm

One thing I love is when music and video games, my two favorite things, get mixed together. Therefore, I love to hear good video game soundtracks, which showcase both popular music by different artists, or original music composed for the game. Here are a few of my favorite video game soundtracks.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

This game's soundtrack is epic. I used to play Morrowind a lot, and when I heard about the 4th game coming out, I was very excited. I didn't get an Xbox 360 for maybe a year or so after they came out, so the wait was intense. I saw a few videos and screen shots, and I wanted to play the game even more. Finally, I got an Xbox 360. I worked my ass off for an entire summer to get one, and I got Oblivion when I got the console. I can't really explain it, but the first time I popped in that game and heard the epic medieval war music play at the title screen, chills ran down my spine. A game as epic in scope as that really needs an amazing soundtrack, and Bethesda delivered. The games music is very memorable for me.

Eternal Sonata

Being a musician myself, both classical and contemporary, I appreciate fine classical music and musicians. I thought this game sounded like a goofy idea when I first heard about it, but I played it and it is now one of my favorite RPGs. The soundtrack to this game is incredible, it combines and original score and 10 or so noteworthy pieces by the famed composer, Frederick Chopin. The music really accompanies the game well.

Grand Theft Auto (series)

Grand Theft Auto games, since Vice City, have all had impressive soundtracks. It has individual "radio stations", which each play a specific genre of music. In Vice City, there is an 80's Pop station, an 80's Rock & Metal station, and a New-Wave station, to name a few. In San Andreas, there is a Classic Rock station, a Grunge & 90's Rock Station, and a Country station, and more. And, in Grand Theft Auto IV, there is a Classic Rock Station, a Hardcore/Metal Station, and a Hip-Hop station, to name a few. The soundtracks always have something for everyone, and they almost always impress me with their song selection. Here are some links to the wiki pages for each of the game's soundtracks
