PostSubject: Axe's ULTIMATE Greatest Hits   Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:23 pm

I got really bored today, so I decided to make an extensive list of all of my favorite music artists. Enjoy

Psychedelic Rock

The Doors

These guys, of course, are my all time favorite music artists. Their music is a delectable mix of blues rock and psychedelic rock, and I love every song they ever put out. One interesting thing about this band is that the bass is done on a Fender Rhoads Keyboard Bass, so it makes their sound very unique.

Strawberry Alarm Clock

This band is pretty much forgotten nowadays, but they were fairly popular back in the 60's. They just have a cool sound in my opinion. Also, the guitarist is actually the guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd.

70's Hard Rock

Blue Oyster Cult

This band is one of the most underrated bands in history. They had a few popular songs, but they really had some great material that was undiscovered. One of the greatest early heavy metal bands.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xXEtO3bEe0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izjl-FODymg

Thin Lizzy

This is yet another great, underrated band. Phil Lynott was one of the best performers ever to grace this fine earth. Heavy Metal was also greatly influenced by these guys, who were one of the first heavy metal bands.

80's Rock/Pop

Boston

Epic guitars. Tom Sholz is one of the greatest guitar players of the 80's, and his tone quality is unmatched. You can immediately tell if it's Boston just by the way the guitars sound. Brad Delp has some of the best vocals too, his voice is simply amazing. Overall, this is just one of the coolest pop/rock bands out there.

REO Speedwagon

This is probably the best 80's Pop group. Kevin Cronin's vocals are incredible, and his songwriting ability is amazing. Just a very good group, which I am fortunate enough to have seen live.

Punk Rock

Blondie

Probably my favorite punk band. Although, they did turn into more of a pop band later in their history, they still have massive punk roots playing at CBGB with The Ramones, But, their pop music is amazing as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SSmWMAzHBU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CmhqoB1lNE

The Clash

I really like these guys because they actually know their instruments very well. Their songwriting is amazing for a punk rock band.

Glam Metal/Hair Metal

Motley Crue

I like them, so go ahead and throw rocks at me. I don't understand why everyone hates them so much, they have some really cool songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oxu-EWq5yjA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d0SUHYTp-4

Quiet Riot

The band which featured Randy Rhoads first and ultimately became one of the most popular hair metal bands of the 80's. It's just really raw sounding and upbeat, I love it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubZjbmA1Id0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnnN8vderk8

NWOBHM

gotta be IRON MAIDEN

One of the coolest heavy metal bands ever. They put on one of the best live shows you will ever see in your life. Bruce Dickinson is highly regarded as one of the best vocalists ever and Steve Harris is a prodigy at the bass. Amazing music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt3zdoLO-pM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sam5omG0v0

Judas Priest

This is the band that took Black Sabbath's formula and changed it into what we know as metal now. Rob Halford also popularized the metal style we use now. We owe our asses to these guys.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWhInhE6emE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60Iv_kAjMLk

Power Metal

Nightwish

Some people insult this band and say they aren't metal, but that is 100% bullshit. Just because a band is different doesn't mean they are sh!t. But, there are many metal aspects to this group and I love them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnl51qk2gPU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6RuDVwXNLM

Sonata Arctica

One of the most unique bands out there, and they constantly deliver good music. Their keyboardist is amazing, and Tony Kakko has one of the best voices.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4WoHxL3GQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_E2h4AqRWc (Iron Maiden cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1zkXdqcajk

Melodic Death Metal

Children of Bodom

It's a really cool mix of power metal and death metal elements and that's why I love it. Alexi Laiho is an amazing guitar player, and he can still shred like a God while singing. their rhythm guitar player is also really good, though underrated. And of course, Janne "Wirman" Warmen is one of the best keyboard players out there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyVMzjQN3wU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzIPOHi3Uy0

Norther

A really underrated melo death band. They have some similarities with Children of Bodom, but they have some unique qualities. Their lead guitar player is really good, and their songwriting is also very good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjEXb5hKRek
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkUz_fBHhA8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbnUVq6MsfE

Folk Metal/Viking Metal

Ensiferum

These guys are just plain good. Mixing folk music with death metal sounds like a weird idea, but I can't get enough of these guys. Songwriting is incredible with this group.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKZd4U397M4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvDM-tF2eBw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgaXWDB68qI

Equilibrium

A pretty underrated band in general. They are like a much heavier version of Ensiferum. They don't have as many slow folk parts, but they have an excellent songwriting ability.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yom8nNqmxvQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO8-iYzG5FE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJJHQctXfro

Thrash Metal

Megadeth

It's no secret that Megadeth is my favorite Thrash band. I really don't know what to say about them other than they are a faster, heavier version of Metallica and they have excellent consistency. Don't get me wrong, I love Metallica, but Megadeth has delivered 100% in every album they have released.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHjWJJrwqNc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjhqyzLXy3c

Metallica

Even though they had some grey areas, Metallica still is a legendary band. Their early stuff is spectacular. Enough said.
