I'm not being touchy. I would just add in doom metal because it's a pretty damn big genre and in no way recent either. Progressive metal or whatever other metal you want to add for the last slot is fine.

I know you aren't, but man I don't understand why it's bad of me to have "black metal" encompass all black metal subgenres, have power metal encompass all of it's subgenres, etc. I just thought it would be interesting to see what style of metal people like, not exactly what kind of bands and stuff are their favorite

Okay, I added Doom Metal and Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, and Lord Kur, what's your reasoning for that? I mean come on, you're just throwing insults without any support

Lol Lord Kur did a second post about progressive metal without being provoked. =P

Btw you can't argue taste, which means you can always argue taste. With no rules to play by anything goes.

Yeah I agree with hate. I never attack a form of a music, I don't understand why people feel like they need to. Me and Hate both like sh!tty bands, we know, but at least we are two loyal fans who just love music in general

No but there's a difference in saying

"I don't care for progressive metal" and "progressive metal is gay and it's only purpose is to keep sh!t music from crowding the other genres". I wasn't bent out of shape really, I just hate all the negativity

Guys honestly
The amount of fallacies in this thread are mind boggling
I have had it with these mother f***ing snakes, in this mother f***ing plane

I gotta start listening to heavier stuff because I have no clue what the difference is between
Doom/Black/Suicidal/Sledge/Geothermal/Capitalist metal

Nobody is an expert at everyone else's field
Sounds really anal to me but it might be just because I don't listen to it

Anyway, I agree with the fact that progressive, alternative metal are bad names for genres. Its pretty much saying, I don't know what to call it. I'd straight up call bands "metal" instead of those names

That's what I was saying, they were just getting bent out of shape because I didn't include all the subgenres for black metal. I don't even care anymore, I just made this thread for fun and now it's turned into a hate thread and it pisses me off. We are supposed to talk about music we enjoy because we all love music, not flame other music genres we don't care for and not complain about every little thing.

No but the whole point of a message board is to have fun, and it's hard for people to have fun if others are just insulting their musical tastes. And thanks for the minus rep, I assume you gave it to me

Alright I gave you rep. Enjoy
And yeah I agree there is too much flames in here
I understand that you guys are all victims of each others wrath
So can we spend less time being sensitive and more time talking about music

Let me try to derail this thread onto topic, again

Classical metal, is this pre 2000's?
Because if so that holds a lot of weight.
To hell with 1980's haters, quite a few landmark songs then

i think bands post 2000 can still be considered classic metal

it's a style. should be referred to as traditional, tbh

sorry, I didn't think there was any way to save this thread. I wasn't trying to insult anything.

but anyway, to start anew, classic metal is a genre which is used to define things that are usually classified as hard rock, but are the roots of heavy metal. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Thin Lizzy, stuff like that. classic metal is pretty much pre-1980, 80's metal is usually Thrash Metal or Glam Metal

yeah it's called traditional style

like
priest
maiden

too many bands to mention sometimes just genericly referred to as heavy metal

i mean a new king diamond album is traditional heavy metal

calling it classic metal is a misnomer

lol byd, pretty much. A lot of instrumental players are just called virtuosos. But if we are talking deep deep genres, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest would be considered NWOBHM, not Classic Metal. Classic Metal goes way back to the 70's. It's pretty much back when heavy metal was a genre on it's own

I disagree. I think they can be considered the first band in that genre, although their music does go back into the early 70's.

I believe you are mistaken. they were formed in 1969, and released their first album in 1974. I know Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, but they also agree that they were the first NWOBHM band, because they were the first to extract the blues elements from metal.

Opera Metal
That is a genre that I deny its existence. I simply am atheistic when it comes to that
Its pretty much power metal with a woman singing, which is not a legit reason to change a genre name

Opera Metal? lol, that means pretty much a "Nightwish" option hahahaha. Nightwish is power metal though, it jsut has neo-classical elements, such as the woman singing who is classically trained

well also look at this wiki page

also priest formed in 1967 and released their first demo in 1970

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_of_British_Heavy_Metal

http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=97

wiki doesn't even list them

but when all the other bands caught up to them 10 years after they formed, priest did fit in with the tag

maybe we should consider them the only band in the genre OWOBHM (old wave)

well it doesn't really matter exactly when they formed since the NWOBHM didn't start until almost a decade later

Lol there is a Doom Metal / Grindcore band listed at the metal archives. I just thought that was really funny when I saw it. My guess is that either each song alternates between the two styles (which would make a lot of sense) or the instruments and music are very fast and intense but monotonous and overall things move slowly.

lol yeah it doesn't, but the reason I cite them as the first NWOBHM band is because they were the first band to take blues elements out of heavy metal, and the NWOBHM bands all do that. That's why it's called the "New Wave". But I think it goes either way, you can either cite them as the first or you can cite them as an influence to the others

I think Judas Priest are pretty much NWOBHM. Their song, "The Ripper" was basically challenged by Iron Maiden's "Killers." I think that's the one. Some NWOBHM duel it outs going on there.

Oh, and the album "Stained Class" KILLLLSSSS!!!! God I got that in middle school I hope it is still around here somewhere in good condition. I will buy it a second time if it is somehow lost.
