well kiddies gather around for this is a story that teaches you about one big family value - METAL.
let's see, now it's 2009 (crap i'm old), so it all started in November of 2007. Around that time a word was hitting the street faster than a forest fire in California that Iron Maiden confirmed a concert in croatia. ofc who wouldn't go to see that? well as soon as the tickets were for sale a friend of mine and i rushed to get 3 for headbangers pit area. why 3? 2 for us and the third one was for Boni (those of you who don't know that's my mother). well after freezing our asses off all day long we found out that the store that was supposed to hold the tickets that we reserved had sold them because the manager was a jackass (and some chick probably gave him a blow job). so we spent 3 weeks going around the city from dawn to dusk (or maybe it was vice versa) to find them. only problem was that we were getting wasted all the time so when we finally found the tickets my friend didn't have the money so we couldn't buy them since it was a dealer on the street.
with january of 2008 coming we found that the only place to get the pit tickets is the city where the concert is being held so we got another guy to take care of it since we wouldn't be exactly greeted with open arms in that city. so he was doing sth, only no one knows what until mid february when he told us that he can't get the tickets. he returned my money immediately after a kind introduction of his face to the wall and my friends later on the same week.
so the concert was in august, almost sold out and we still didn't have a way to go. at that point Boni remembered that she could call an old friend of hers named Ziggy. he is one of the best roadies in the world today with over 30 years of experience, and a big metal fan. now he agreed to give us both temporary jobs just to see maiden since he knows how much he wants to see some bands and knows how hard it is to be a young metalhead. only in a matter of weeks everything changed - Boni had something to do with her job so she couldn't go, and my friend's girlfriend didn't let him since going anywhere with me usually means getting in trouble. now at that point i was just pissed. it was march already, i didn't know if even i was going, ppl around me were talking crap and i got into a big mess whit some chick. so i just decided to call ziggy and ask if i'll be going to see IM or not. his reply was "call me in 3 weeks and then we'll talk, i'm busy now".
so if anyone is trying to keep count it was already around mid april when i had to call him again. so after a brief call i had a meeting with him to talk about it. and that meeting went with him just saying "listen - you don't call me. i call you. if you'll be there you'll work. i'm just gonna give you one gig before to see if you can handle working on maidens. but if you f*** up - forget it."
on 17th may 2008 he called up and said "23rd at 5 am, island of youth. f*** up and you're gone. don't work and you're gone. slack off and you're gone. see you there. and don't be late."
so that was my first gig. and now over a year later i'm ziggy's right hand man, a true roadie.

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".

And now Apple pays styx 99c every time he listens to a song.

Seriously though being a roadie must be an awesome job, getting paid to go to concerts that you'd normally pay to get into, can't think of too many better jobs.

the job is great guys, and you see really a lot of stuff. only you also have to do the concerts you don't like (but then again you do have the groupies and the dancers so it's not all bad). only it's really hazardous and most ppl can manage to stay on the job for no longer than 10 years because it's a bit harsh on the spine.
oh and being a sound tech is a good job, just make sure that you're not afraid of heights and if you're not also take a course to become a rigger. extra thing that you can do and pays well too
