[3] Ulver - Bergtatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler

Ulver is a band that only releases one kind of album once. Bertatt - Et Eeventyr i 5 Capitler was the first album released of what is now known as the black metal trilogy. On this album there are black metal and folk metal elements. The mood of the album is amazing. Just look at the album cover. It takes you away to a tall mountain covered in forests during the night. This is not an album that can be summed up in one song, as each song progresses and changes as the story is told. This is probably my favorite album by Ulver. The atmosphere is like none other. This album would be most appreciated only after listening to the whole thing, which is 35 minutes long, so if you don't have anything to do I recommend giving it a try.

Yeah it's a close call for me. I'm ordering both of the CDs on Amazon right now. Then there is Kveldssanger which I have listened to and enjoyed but not as much as the other two.

Nah Kveldssanger is like depressive Norwegian folk music. Neofolk or something. It is pretty good but doesn't have anything to do with black metal other than the same kind of depressive folkish atmosphere that is on Bergtatt, more or less.

Suggestion to check out.

Des Bibles, Des Hymnes, Des Icones by Malleus Maleficarum I'm listening to it right now and I really really like it. Just good solid black metal with no frills but a good atmosphere to me. Vocals are really intense.

I'll check it out. I just found To Violate the Oblivious by Xasthur on Amazon for like $5 used (like new) CA 98% positive feed back. Pretty good deal if you ask me. I'm mostly nervous about whether I should get Shining albums or not right now lol because the whole gun in the mouth thing is pretty damn obnoxious. I'll have to eventually though.

lol your like I used to be now I just get s*** and stuff it in a pile and no one ever notices anything. I have so many bm CD's now lol sometimes I forget how big of a bm fan I am until I start digging through my CD's and see em all. And if it says anythign about the CD I suggested I just listened to it 4 times in a row.

Anyway I pretty well use Amazon for all my used CD needs otherwise I get em from a label or a band directly. I use Century Media alot their store is fairly cheap and rather reliable but shipping can be a bit much if you only order one thing. The cool part is whenever you order something you get a free clearence CD Very Happy

all shining albums are pretty enjoyable, as they go up in number the production gets clearer and clearer until the last one (halmstad) which is perfectly crisp

the suicide gimmick isn't anything to worry about since obviously they aren't serious about it otherwise they would be dead.

if you like raw, start with the early ones and move forward and if you like clean start with halmstad and move backwards

I found Tomb of the Ancient King on ebay but it's damn expensive. I think it might be sold by now.

I finished the order and I'm getting III, IV, and V. Those are pretty much my favorite ones. II sounded all right and I hear I was rather unoriginal. The singer stopped taking medication and had a suicide attempt once. He was saved at a hospital called Halmsted, hence the name of the album. V was like under $4 but III was $20. I was a sucker but one of the songs on it is a huge favorite of mine so I had to do it.

Found Tomb of the Ancient King LP ....for $300. >_> those will be hard to find because the first one is a limit 100 self released demo and usually if you dont get those before they sell out they get hard to find. The other is limited as well. Hmm maybe make a post of the MA and ask if anyone has it.

When the cost is that much I just download it. It's not like you're ripping off the artists any way if it's just getting circulated between buyers and sellers. If it gets re-released I'd probably buy it.

Here are the albums I ordered:

Ulver - Bergtatt
Ulver - Nattens Madrigal
Shining - III
Shining - IV
Shining - V
Xasthur - To Violate the Oblivious
Windir - Likferd
($90)

And I already have:
Death - Leprosy
Death - Symbolic
The Faceless - Akeldama (don't ask me why I got it, it was cheap)

7 CD's for 90 not a bad price at all. Got some good ones too. Yeah amazon is great if your on a budget for sure. I use it for alot of my casual intrest buys and stuff like that. And sometimes you get really lucky and get an OOP version of a King Diamond CD for 6 dollars >:3

Bergtatt, Likferd, and III were $15, $15, and $20 (respectively). That's where most of the cost came from. All the other stuff was pretty cheap. The good news is that I'm getting pretty close to being caught up with all the albums that I really really had to get.

I have pretty much the same opinion on Shining that have already been said. Halmstad was without a doubt my favorite of them. Hmm wonder why they were that expensive did you get new ones?

Nah they were cheap as f***. I got V for like $3.40. There are still some used ones left that are under $5. IV was decently cheap too. III was like the last one left I think lol just older and more expensive.
