[4] Death - Leprosy

Stand in unadulterated shock at what stands to be one of the greatest albums of all times. Every since I first heard this thing it has just captivated me. This album alone is pretty much killing my love for death metal. I don't even understand why it is called death metal because it sounds unlike any death metal I've ever heard. I can't even get into a lot of death metal any more because this album is always reminding me about how dull everything else really is. Maybe this just happens to fall into a perfect niche for my musical tastes, or maybe this really is just one of the best metal albums there is. This raw primitive form of death metal contains pure anger and hatred for 38 minutes and 41 seconds. I got this album not too long ago and every once in a while I just have to take it out and look at it. "I have this..." I will think to myself. The only reason it doesn't make me explode with accomplishment is because I always knew I would have it eventually, as it is by no means hard to get your hands on it. Matter of fact there is a 2008 release that has 5 additional live tracks. Eventually I'll probably buy that version as well and have both of them.

In my opinion, and the opinion of many others, this is a serious progression from Scream Bloody Gore. It's basically the perfection of old school death metal before they started moving on to add progressive elements to their music. The average reviews come out to like 83% or something like that so it's probably just happens to fit my musical tastes really well but I'd still check out the sample song at least. As far as song quality goes the whole album is very consistent. Every song is more of the same yet unique at the same time. This paradox is resolved by the fact that Death was pioneering death metal. I like all of their stuff. I'll probably switch favorites as time progresses.
