Cool! I remember one or two of the songs uploaded to youtube had the vocals set way lower than they are supposed to be. When I downloaded it everything sounded fine though.

You know, I think I would like black metal like that if the production quality was a little higher. I mean, that song sounded kinda cool, but it was so hard to hear the chord changes, especially when synth and other things are changing too. There is this band called Stormlord I believe, and they have a really black metal sound, but the quality it seems is pretty good. That was always the problem I had with black metal.

This album actually has pretty good production compared to most black metal bands. The surprising thing is that everything is done by a single independent person, G.B. Youtube probably kills the quality some but there is a fuzziness, especially on the fourth song or something, but I actually really like the production. I suppose it takes some getting used to.

I've always wondered what Ulver's Nattens Madrigal would sound like if it had good production. If a group of guys got together and covered every song and just put Garm's vocals over the whole thing and gave it good production. A lot of people think it would sound even better. I think it would sound a lot different but since the music is really good it would probably sound great as well.

The production is definitely better than some... lol

I've tried to listen a few black metal bands you guys have posted, and some were so bad (production wise) that I almost couldn't listen to it. To me, I think the heart of black metal is a good idea. Something very light and slow, almost ambient. But sometimes there is way too much distortion and poor production that it almost destroys anything I might get out of it

I love ColdWorld; the album is aptly named. There's something very peaceful in listening to this as well. Georg makes some masterfull compositions. Have you heard TheStarsAreDeadNow EP? It's very good also.

Well theres two kinds of black metal the softer ambient and then just streight up agressive and violent. But on a side note yes Coldworld are an awesome band I've only heard a few tracks but I enjoyed them.

Yeah I've heard it. It is very good. There are 50 reissues out there that have two bonus songs but I've only heard one of them. Ragnarok is the name of the one ColdWorld song I have not heard. The EP is probably pretty hard to get but if I ever see it for a decent price I'll certainly buy it.

And then some music is both ambient and aggressive. I heard Velvet Cacoon and it seemed a little like that. Only heard a couple songs but I liked it.

The best net cost I found it for is ~$30 including shipping so I just add 10 on that for time and effort and any other kind of cost that might slip in there. At the moment I'm going to see if I can get it another way and if that stuff doesn't work out I'll message you. Thanks for offering a hand!

Yeah. When stuff is that expensive I honestly just think, "Well...I have the download." Lol.

Yeah that song is a good pace breaker and then the rest of the songs are a bit more mellow but just as good in my opinion. You should hear the last song, it's brilliant.

I'm not sure raw is the right description for 1349, they're a bit too polished. More brutal (if such a word can be applied to a black metal band), in the same way as Infernal War. Still a damn fine band. Sculptor of Flesh is just composed of pure awesomeness.

raw only has to do with the production and 1349's production isn't raw

raw is not only the production...
is the style of the chords played...the speed of the drumming...the raspness of tghe vocals....and the lack of bass.....

raw black is my 3rd favorite BM style...so i will judge when is and when is not a raw black metal song by mi own opinion ...

you are both wrong

the style they play is norsecore and that has nothing to do with production

it's not worth arguing about but you really can't just make up definitions that aren't true and call it an opinion

as a matter of fact, 1349 is practically the exact opposite of raw

"...make up definitions that aren't true..."
-Lord Kur

Okay it isn't really fair to do that because I know what you mean.

There is a population of people who recognize raw black metal as a style of music (bands like Mayhem, Craft, and of course 1349.) Also, otherwise, there is nothing really in place to categorize such bands other than saying they are black metal but that's really not a sufficient description considering how vast the variety of black metal bands is.

If that's not brutal, nothing is. Brutal and black can go together, it's just not very common I think.

I'm not trying to start an argument like Kur, but I do agree with him, 1349 isn't raw, but that's just my opinion. Raw to me is mid paced, filthy black metal with grim production. 1349 is to fast, to percussive and to well produced to be raw.

Again, just my 2 cents.

raw bands:

von
judas iscariot
mutiilation (old)
lyncanthropy's spell

non raw

dimmu borgir
1349
dark funeral
vreid

although older 1349 was rawer. their newest album and the 2 before it have pretty clean production

craft isn't in the least bit raw, either

I have to admit, as unoriginal as I may be, I like Angelcorpse quite a bit.

Angelcorpse - Christhammer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7nRvTQE1ZE

Infernal War's latest stuff is really great if you haven't heard any of it.

Basically blackened death metal and black/death metal bands can mix brutality with black metal but it isn't pure black metal.
