PostSubject: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion REVIEW   Fri Jul 10, 2009 6:22 pm

Well, it's time for me to review the best game of all time.

TES Oblivion is an action RPG developed by the spectacular Bethesda Softworks. Oblivion is much like their other games because it is non-linear, giving the player the ability to play the game however he wants. You can play through the game multiple times and it feels fresh and exciting each time. In fact, I'm on my 3rd or 4th run through now. The game is just breathtaking. From the moment I first saw the opening screen and the epic battle music, I knew it was going to be good. As a hardcore Morrowind fan, I was very, very excited for Oblivion, and it delivered completely. The game world is just massive, and offers hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Oblivion starts out with your character in prison. This is where you create your character from the ground up. You choose your race from about 8 choices, and then use about 20 to 30 sliders to make your character look how you want him or her to. You choose everything from the nostril size to the hair style and color. The game really gives you a lot of options for your character. You can make a semi-normal looking human who is balding, or you can make some weird ass cat monster who looks like he will eat your testicles. The choice is all yours. After you get done creating your character, the emperor and his guards will enter your cell and spark a decently long conversation where you learn about the main story of the game. You get released through secret passageway, and you embark on a medium length tutorial quest through the Castle's Underground, Dark Caverns, and finally the Sewer which is your exit. During this tutorial, you learn about everything, from health and magic power to how to use the quest log or a war hammer. As soon as you exit the sewers, the game is completely open for you to explore. You can immediately follow the emperors orders or you can abandon them completely explore the world. It's all up to the player.

The game's combat system is one of the greatest improvement to the series. The combat is in first person, and it feels very fluid and realistic. Whether you are using a bow or a dagger, the combat shines. The magic is also very easy to use with the newer hotkey addition. Now you can hotkey spells and weapons, so you don't need to go into your menu every time you want to switch spells. The graphics in this game are very good too. This game was a release title for the Xbox 360 I believe, but the graphics are still some of the best you will find on the console to date. The soundtrack is another thing that really shines. The game has tons and tons of fantasy/medieval themed tracks that fit the game perfectly. This is one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. The skillset for this game offers a lot in the way of character development. By using a certain skill, such as your blade skill, it will level up the skill instead of earning you experience. As soon as you level up ten skills, your character levels up. This is when you invest points in the governing skills, such as strength or speed. If you invest a point into strength, you will be able to carry more and hit for more damage. I think this is the best way to do skills in an RPG, because it makes it so you don't have to kill every monster you find. You can simply sneak by and skill gain experience for your sneak ability, thus leveling you up.

A character wearing full elven armor

Ruins found in the game world

A low level goblin

Overall, this game is amazing. It is a must play for any fan of RPGs or even action games, because this game has a very widespread appeal. I know people who don't normally play RPGs who play this game because it is so action oriented and so addicting. This is probably my favorite game of all time, because it is just so epic in scope.

Dude, we gotta play this game together. We could be in party chat, and go through together! lol

Me and my buddy, back before the 360 came out, had "Morrowind Time", which was when we would set up two TVs side by side and hooked our consoles up, and pretty much played through together. It was almost as good as co-op

That song was pretty cool actually. I haven't listened to them that much, I thought they were just a mediocre band.

The lyrics are super corny
ITs pretty much like "Die enemies die!" every song for 4-5 albums

lol that's the way you do it. lol in that song you posted

I see the fear you have inside, you can run but never hide
I will hunt you down and tear you limb from limb
Nothing shall remain, not your memory, your name
It will be as though you never, ever lived

Then it does a evil laugh

I'll tell ya right now TWBB is a hugely story driven story, its slow, but by the end he gets in fights with everyone

I don't think its possible for a man not to like 1984

If I had my GODDAMN license, I could go to the FUCKINGGODDAMN library and rent it with this convenient library card I have. GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING bad economy, it makes it hard on everyone. I feel bad for the GODFUCKINGDAMN people who got laid off when they have families to take care of.
