PostSubject: VR List 9 / Instrumentals   Sun Jul 26, 2009 6:32 am

This is a theme list, and the theme is instrumentals. Unfortunately I won't be putting shredder stuff so much, and yes that is because I just don't know many shredder songs. Most of these instrumentals are more atmospheric/emotional.

Bal-Sagoth - The Fallen Kingdoms of the Abyssal Plain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVjX4f6cG-Y
This song is...I don't know how to put it. I like Bal-Sagoth and I think their music is unique and fun to listen to and all but this to me was beyond Bal-Sagoth. This is like the atmosphere of a large icy cavern.

Bal-Sagoth - To Storm the Cyclopean Gates of Byzantium
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm9A3W8yJec
An epic anthemic song with soft interludes. This is stuff that epic RPG game makers would only dream of adding to their games.

Bal-Sagoth - The Awakening of the Stars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RSBngryjsg
Just one more quick one. This is a 91 second introduction song. This is like excellent game screen music.

Severed Savior - Death is Just the Beginning
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKkKUWTEAtg
A tribute to Rob Lumbre, RIP. Short and emotional solo/instrumental.

Death - Voice of the Soul
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd4q0Xx-u1Y
Very emotional and excellent instrumental track.

Xasthur - Walker of Dissonant Forests
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcEc8LX1FMg
I know hardly anyone likes this song but I do so I'm putting it here.

ColdWorld - Empty
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oIQQX9Dw3k
One of the most relaxing and melodic songs I've ever heard.

Nachtreich - Herbstrot
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vdNKAFmWUY
I wouldn't say this is my favorite song by Nachtreich but it is as good as any. Unless classical music isn't your thing you have to hear the whole thing.

Opeth - Atonement
http://www.imeem.com/artists/opeth/music/PW_YOTBB/opeth-atonement-album-version/
Note: You'll need an account, if you don't have one get one it is very easy.
This song was just completely bizzare the first time I heard it but you know it is a pretty cool song.

Iron Maiden - Transylvania
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfEJU4KUEkk
This song pretty much defines Iron Maiden's earlier sound.

Metallica - Orion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbUJilAbPQA
One of Metallica's excellent instrumentals.

Jeff Loomis - Miles of Machines
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nY-XDF_Ask
Here is your shredder song, good one too. I think I'm going to buy this album next go around.

---
Bonuses: Partially Instrumental
Here are some songs that have a little bit of singing/talking but in my eyes are basically instrumentals.

Iron Maiden - Dance of Death
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZDB0mAMkA4
No stranger here. This song is magical every single time you hear it.

Megadeth - Hangar 18
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtsD2tBPZgo
One of Megadeth's best.

Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19UZd_DKs2Q
A very beautiful song. I know the beginning stuff sounds like crap but their production got messed up really badly (awful guitar sound). Pretty much sucks but at least the important part of this song didn't seem that messed up by it.

Ulver - Ulvsblakk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmGBYbnMT7M
Featured within this song is one of the most underrated vocal techniques ever: the laugh.

And well, that's a very short list. I know I'm forgetting a couple things so I might add one or two songs randomly over time.

Additions: Just wanted to add a few video game tracks that are really good.

Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08RYp-uDpPo
But I like this version better:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGqTA2Uae3s
Same thing but just a fuller sound.

Castlevania - Dracula's Castle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qh_uhV0ta0

Castlevania - Lost Painting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-h3BG94IoBA
But I like this version better:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wwpof1o2_Y
Piano does it better.

Yeah you're right. I was about to go through a massive list of bands so I could remind myself of all the stuff that was out there but it was late at night. You guys can feel free to share good instrumentals here. I would do Summoning but I haven't really heard all their albums and stuff.

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".
