PostSubject: The Song of the Week 15 BRUTE (man it has been awhile)   Tue Aug 25, 2009 3:59 pm

Ok kiddies, i looked at the date, that last time i did this was over 2 months ago, im so sorry. i have been extremely busy, and every time i thought about doing this i was nowhere near a computer. But now i am so now i can enlighten you with my new favorite track o' the week.

The artist i would like to showcase today is a band called Between the Buried and Me. Their musical style is progressive death. I have been steadily getting into more progressive sounding bands recently. I like the fact that bands are so talented it takes them an entire album to get one complete song across.

The album in the spotlight is called Colors.

The album is 64 minutes long, and a continuous song. This pleases me greatly. If we lived in a perfect world, i would ask that you all download and listen to it here, i might even provide a link, even in .zip form----

http://www.megadownload.net/download/mu/h2wbrc1b/between-the-buried-and-me-colo..zip

But i guess, out of the whole album, if i could get you to listen to just one song, i guess it would have to be

Ants in the Sky. Keep in mind this song is smack dab in the middle of the album, so it picks up and drops off rather suddenly. But the musicianship is truly mind blowing. And if i remember correctly, there is some random part that sounds like it could be music to a bar fight. Just please, i beg you, stick with the whole 13 minute song, even if it is on in the background.
Pt. 1

Pt. 2

This is now one of my favorite albums of all time. I probably found out about these guys 3 weeks ago and have played this album probably 15 times. i love it to death. I as always, dont ask that you like what i like, all i want is a fair listen

As always....

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".

To say their first 2 albums were abominations, this is actually rather good, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention, as I'd written them of to be honest. Not on a par with other other prog-deathsters I love, but good nonetheless.

i would agree that their first two albums were.....less than stellar. This entire album is one gigantic long prog-death masterpiece.

Their last album, Alaska, wasnt too bad either, much more on par with Colors

I take it the progressive death metal world is fairly new to you Brute? Here's a band you should definitely check out:

Symbyosis. On the Wings of Phoenix is a 2 disc masterpiece with 2 of the best and unheralded guitarists around. The second disc has some awesome covers, much like Kalisia did with Cybion.

How did you like those albums I linked for you BTW?

im at work, so the connection speed will SUCK, but ill bookmark this for home

those links.....eh, they were ok. nowhere near the caliber of Kalisia. the first one was rather thrash sounding, and im far removed from that stage in my life. Apexia...i forget the name....sounds promising, but i didnt get a chance to listen to them.
ill see if i can find the links you just recommended to me in youtube, as a prelisten

Yeah I've heard that song, good pick Brute.

I've heard their second album (Silent Circus) and I thought it was pretty good, but not in the same way as their new stuff. Alaska had the funky sounding guitars but was decent enough I guess; I haven't heard the whole thing start to finish.

BTBAM is okay, I find them to be kinda, I don't know how to put it, not anything special though. Good musicians, just don't really care for them.
