PostSubject: Albums of 2009   Sat Aug 29, 2009 2:58 pm

As one of these albums has been delivered to my door today, it seemed like a good idea to see whats impressed you so far this year.

The album that fell through my letter box this morning was the new Augury album, Fragmentary Evidence, and after only listening to it once, its made the list, no questions asked. The best death metal album of the year so far, and also the best progressive album: screw Dream Theater.

Cybion by Kalisia is a no brainer, probably being the best album of the year unless Immortal can come up with the goods.

Meet us at the Southern Sign by Glorior Belli is worthy of mention, along with Spears of Heaven by Graveland.

Bible of the Beast by Powerwolf is in my top 5, it is more catchy than the plague, I swear.

I'm undecided where I lie with the latest efforts from Persefone and Sacrifice. I like both albums for sure, but in my top ten albums of this year... I'm not sure.

And before you all include it in your lists, which I know you will, From Afar falls short by some way of making my list. Ensiferum really are nowhere near as good as everyone seems to think they are: Wintersun are vastly superior.

You'd think you'd never heard a catchy melody before the way you fellate them.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. But hey, even though I disagree, Wintersun and Ensiferum are equally matched in my opinion. And you can have your own opinion.

Its not to say they aren't good, its just their melodies are so damn obvious and the keys are obnoxious: point me in the direction of a proper folk band who use use a keyboard like that and I'll slap myself silly, its the one thing that annoys me about these "folk" metal bands, the lack of some actual, honest to god folk in the music, like say Empyrium use.

Catchy though, which what I suppose they were going for.

Crap, I can't believe I didn't mention Microcosmos.

I need to listen to that album more, I listened to it twice then moved onto something else, there's just been so much to take in this year.

Valid point. It's just hard to find good keys these days.

Meh, I prefer the original Memoria, the guitar tone on that album is vast. I like Blut aus Nord, but they're not the strongest of the French scene, MUATSS is a better album methinks, but thats just my opinion.

Glorior Belli may have a hard time making my top ten because there's probably gonna be 2 Njiqahdda albums this year and the new marduk and beverast

ENSIFERUM - FROM AFAR

They sound amazing to me. They are definitely a folk metal band, just like Wintersun. But I'm choosing to sit out on this one because I love Enisferum and no matter what people say I will love them and their music

Warmen - Japanese Hospitality
Nachtreich - Sturmgang
Alestorm - Black Sails at Midnight
Leaves' Eyes - Njord
Nightwish - Made in Hong Kong
Sonata Arctica - The Days of Greys (Not yet released, but I can't wait!)
CKY - Carver City

I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking of

I can't believe two people said Nachtreich. I actually listened to Sturmgang last night it was so good.

I haven't really been paying attention to new releases I've just been listening to things from all kinds of time periods so I'm not sure what I would mention. 2009 doesn't end for a while so I have some time to figure it out.

It's a limited edition MC. Not too expensive it should be $15~$20.

Only one left though it seems...
