PostSubject: More Melodic Death Metal for your listening pleasure   Fri Sep 04, 2009 8:10 pm

Naildown

A very cool Melodic Death Metal band out of Finland. Their sound is somewhat like Children of Bodom's, Norther's, and Kalmah's, but it's still head bang worthy. It's definitely not the most unique band you will listen to, but it's good metal. Plus I don't think they are a copy of any one band, they just have a similar sound to some of the more popular keyboard driven Melodic Death Metal groups.

Hollow Syndicate - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcQKmbisM8Y

Reflecting My Descent - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9fvfTP1UGw

Nightrage

Again, not a groundbreaking band, but a good band to listen to when you want high energy Melo Death. The band is from Greece, and Gus G was actually in this band for some of the first demos, for those who are Gus G fans. It does not have profound keyboards in it at all, as far as I know, it's very guitar driven.

Reality Versus Truth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlElmBTuklA

The Tremor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n0vJbANIgk

Dimension Zero

They sound a little like In Flames, but I'm not a huge In Flames fan. This is actually the side project of In Flames' guitarist Jesper Strömblad , so you can kinda get the gist of the guitar style. It's overall a solid group, and I think a lot of you will like it more than I do.

Hell is Within - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NMEF-oN_uo

He Who Shall Not Bleed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ2o0k1M_5c

Thank you for putting Reality Versus Truth. That is one of my favorite songs by Nightrage even though I'm not too into Nightrage and pretty much agree with what you said about them.

I'll have to check out the other two.

not really my style but it's all ok for what it is, generic

melodic death metal really needs to come up with a couple new riffs. the 4 riffs they share between 12,000 bands is getting a tad samey

I agree for the most part. I mean, occasionally you get some bands that sound pretty unique. I mean, if I play Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, and At The Gates, I know it's three different bands. But I know a lot of bands like this sound pretty generic, although I'm a pretty big fan of the sound. Plus there are some differences that make each group a little unique.

I think I find progressive death metal a lot more interesting than melodic death metal. Melodic death metal is definitely good, but I only ever listen to a handful of the bands.

I disagree because everyone else is agreeing
If they all use the same riffs wouldn't the bands all sound the same? If the vocals are similar, and a very few amount of riffs are being used, the bands would blend into one which they don't

Lol I like arguing

If I said "but your here" that would be lame
So I will say that I don't like Naildown or Dimension Zero for whatever reason

Onto Nightrage!

I think it's all a matter of taste really. I mean, before I got into newer metal like this I thought anything with screaming or growling vocals sounded the same. It's really only when you get into a certain genre that you start seeing the differences and start appreciating the unique qualities. Each of these bands is similar though, but I wouldn't say they sound the same-

Lol Lord Kur.

Yeah there is a lot of truth to that Axe. I know a lot of people first notice the vocals when they hear extreme metal and then think it all sounds the same.

Lol there is nothing to be ashamed about. I used to be just the other way around, steering clear of slow music and clean vocals.

Did you get into heavy metal music first?

The first genre of music I really got into was Classic Rock, then I branched to a bunch of forms of metal

My entry was Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and
Spoiler:

for the most part. I then went to black/gothic metal and symphonic black metal and then metalcore and then death metal and then more traditional black metals and then branched out to most everything.

Emperor - I Am The Black Wizards

And that's one of the best song titles ever by the way. Definitely up there with Frostdemonstorm.

You dare post the wrong link?
But yeah it was in VC's sig for a long time. Its very similar to Windir. I'd recommend it, its quite epic and not a clusterfuck of black metalness
