Avoid alliterations always
Prepositions are not words to end sentences with
Avoid cliches like the plague
Employ the vernacular
Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary
Foreign words or phrases are not apropos
One should never generalize
Comparisons are as bad as cliches
Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; its highly superfluous
Be more or less specific
The passive voice is to be avoided
Who needs rhetorical questions?

There are 6 golden rules to writing, especially fiction, that you missed.

Descriptive adjectives that end "ly" are not to be used: they're the sign of a lazy writer.

When writing speech, the only word that follows should be "said". Describe the tone of voice if you must, but don't use phrases like "he exclaimed". It ruins any immersion you may have built up.

Never, ever talk about weather. You must have better things to write about.

Possessives always end in 's, even if the last letter of the name is S. Forget what your english teacher may have told, Stephen King and many other writers will tell you otherwise.

Never use the same word twice in a paragraph. The exceptions are the articles: the, a etc...

Avoid using The, His or Her at the start of a sentence.

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".

I know, you stole it from another site: I've seen it before. I just like to let the grammar bully in me out once in a while.

I write fiction for my own amusement all the time, so I'd be game.

A spelling b would be a bit pointless considering everyone would have the internet at their disposal.

Still, the writing contest is a great idea.

Hah I suck at writing but I could give it a whirl just for fun. I remember I once wrote this one short story where I spent an average of a minute selecting each word. It was epic.
