Altar of Plagues - White Tomb (2009)
1. "As A Womb" - 12:03
2. "As A Furnace" - 15:01
3. "Watchers Restrained" - 9:48
4. "Gentian Truth" - 13:10
One of the most celebrated releases of 2009, White Tomb is one of those albums that has that "capture a moment" feel to it. It feels like it wasn't trying to push the bar or be part of a music scene, it just put out what it intended to put out. The music here varies between heavy post-rock, softer post-rock moments, and even a strange kind of black / funeral doom part on track 3. The vocals are strong emotional black metal vocals but sometimes change to a higher pitched raspy style that sounds like it comes from the top of the throat. The production on the album isn't low-fi at all. The band this reminds me of the most is Lantlos. Worth checking out.
