Possibly the hardest question in the world
I have to go with Bethesda, Bioware is just underneath

Bioware. Mass Effect and KotOR are two of the best RPGs I've played and Dragon Age looks amazing.

Bethesda have made some bloody brilliant games too, I can't even measure the amount of time I played Oblivion.

Can't say that, apart from KotOR 2, I've played much from Obsidian.

The poll is in order. Obsidian is good, but they haven't made nearly as many great games as bioware. Bioware has made tons of great games, but Morrowind is the best game of all time.

Dragon Age is in my top ten favorite games of all time

Bioware because even though I loved oblivion and fallout, I think KoToR might just be the best game i've ever played :S

I agree. See, the problem with the above companies, is they sorta miss out on what is ultimately the heart and soul of the rpg. The Story. You should feel like the lead character in some grand adventure, you should play that "role". No one does that better than Square.

I won't deny that the Final Fantasies have their foibles, like random encounters, and structures battles, but they've always seem more likes qwerks than annoyances. In the end, you get swept through a grand story, constantly pulled through the next twist. The people have character in these games, you become involved. You hate the bad guys and cheer for the good guys and don't give a damn that you can't chose which one you are.

These massive open world, quest based games are all very good, but even with their "choices have consequence" and "80 novels worth" of chat, they just can't compete with the story. They seem more like action games than RPG's, and I'm just not sold.

In the end, I'll take a decent J-RPG, androgynous boys and wierd hair cuts and all over their western cousins anyday.

Square FTW.

What do you guys think this is, a democracy?
I don't know why I added Obsidian, unless someone just loved KOTOR 2

Dave, you missed out on the powerhouse that is SE because you never owned a Playstation consle (which housed most of them). But don't worry. When we join forces next September, you will have access to my PS2.
