I don't think you can go wrong with any of their stuff, honestly. If no one else does, I'll find a specific album when I get home.

Gah, my favorite band.

Cthulhu Hulu's Guide to Summoning

Here is samples/links from each album (oh how much their style has changed):

Demo

Interesting. Not the greatest thing ever, but worth a listen or two.

Tales From the Northern Forest (song)

Lugburz

It's good melodic black metal, Tolkien style.

Beyond Bloodred Horizons (song)
Flight of the Nazgul (song)

Minas Morgul

This is where their style really started to change, after they kicked out the real drummer.

The Passing of the Grey Company (song)
Lugburz (song)

Dol Guldur

A bit more epic, with longer songs. The Nightshade Forests EP was release shortly after continuing the album, because Summoning had so much material written that they couldn't fit it all in one album.

Nightshade Forests (song)
Over Old Hills (song)

Stronghold

Summoning's only non-Tolkien album. With this album they moved into an incredibly epic style.

Like some snow - White Marble Eyes (song)
A Distant Flame Before the Sun (song)

Let Mortal Heros Sing Your Fame

This is the album that broke boundaries in the music world. Stronghold was epic, but this is even more epic. Some people have even gone as far as to call this album "too epic." Impossible IMO. They used a choir for the first time in the song "Farewell."

Farewell (song)
South Away (song)

Oath Bound

Ok. This totally hit me by surprise. It's even more epic than the last album. By far my favorite Summoning release, and most people just can't handle so much epic at one time.

2 songs here use the choir, and it sounds so good that I wish it was used more. But, alas, this album isn't just the best Summoning album, but the best metal album period.

Mirdautas Vras is also the only song, not including the LotR soundtrack, to be written entirely in black speech. It's actually very beautiful, yet ugly.

Mirdautas Vras (song)

And here is a "sampler" with all the songs on the album in parts (but to get the whole effect, listen to the album in order, and then it will take you to The Land of the Dead, widely considered the greatest Summoning song).

Because it's popular enough for one to find on his or her own.
