Other than the obvious ones like Hendrix, Page and Iommi, Larry LaLonde (Primus and Possessed) is probably the only guitarist I really like that could be considered technical... Shredders just don't appeal to me, though Vai has some cool stuff.

But I really like Gavin Ward of Bolt Thrower, Infernus...

And Stephen O'Malley

I say EVH is overrated, but he is a phenomenal guitar player and incredibly influential. He is the one that revolutionized tapping (people did it before, like Jimmy Page, Brian May, Robbie Krieger, etc) but he really took it and made it his own. That being said, I think a lot of people think he's better than he really is. "Eruption" is incredible because of his tapping talent, but alot of his riffs start to sound the same after awhile

EVH and Malmsteen have all the technique but their work is so,repetitive. Page and May have the same technical skill but May especially is like a poet on the guitar. I can't even play a May solo and make it sound remotely close to the original.

I think people are missing out on the fact that Eddie can riff like a mofo. Van Halen is a fabulous little rock record, that really doesn't feature anywhere near the wankiness of say a Malmsteen record: they are mainly just good old rock songs with Roth doing a damn fine job too.

BTW thanks Hate!

Talking to you is like talking to a 12 year old that likes to eat glue and paint chips ! May has did little for music , Yea he can play but so can millions of other guitar players .. Eddie was so more than tapping , He was a innovator , He did shit that people still cant do , And if you know how to play " eruption " note for note than you should know how crazy his style was !
