Yea , that was a low blow and i am sorry .. Everyone now under the age of 20 thinks eddie is just tapping , Most dont understand that when he was doing his thing starting in the 70s . No respect for the old dogs that did it 1st !

Quoted for truth. I keep telling everyone to put away their Dream Theater albums and listen to Symphony X, but they never do. You get Allen instead of that talentless feck Labrie as another added bonus.

The solo from Masquerade is amazing, I love playing it.

I think people are missing out on the fact that Eddie can riff like a mofo. Van Halen is a fabulous little rock record, that really doesn't feature anywhere near the wankiness of say a Malmsteen record: they are mainly just good old rock songs with Roth doing a damn fine job too.

BTW thanks Hate!
AMEN ! Welcome also !

I think maybe the reason I couldn't get into Van Halen is because of Roth's voice. I just can't stand it.

I love a lot of classic rock, but I associate Van Halen with the beginning of the selling out of rock... That's probably part of the reason I hate EVH's playing, he's a great guitarist, but he never varied from the same formula simply because that formula sold records. Yea he had more to his playing than tapping, but that's what he's known for. People see him as an innovator, but most of his techniques weren't knew, he just did it faster and more aggresively. I'm gonna stick to my guns though and say that there were far better guitarists, even among his contemporaries. May, Page and Iommi are just Gods as far as I'm concerned. EVH is a good guitarist, no doubt, but he lacked the diversity that others brought to the table.

Plus, I would kill for May's tone... Holy shit.

And Hate, I love debating this stuff with you, you know a lot about what you're talking about, but please don't take things so personal, it's all about the music. I really have a lot of respect for you man.

I hear alot of what your saying , Van halen went to hell after 84 , And yea iommi is a god , but may is just a good player , He never pushed it , He had a chance to jump in black sabbath with iommi and never did it ... I love talking shit with anyone , its cool and i know and understand that most of us dont like the same shit , i try to understand most times but im just like every other dick head out there , I show my ass ... I think that maybe we can all just try to understand each other . I will do my best but if you had a chick like kim on your ass 24 /7 you would want to kill too.. lol

EVH and Malmsteen have all the technique but their work is so,repetitive. Page and May have the same technical skill but May especially is like a poet on the guitar. I can't even play a May solo and make it sound remotely close to the original.
May is good but goddamn he is not eddie ! Malmsteen is good but goddamn he is not eddie !

Brian May has more soul than Eddie, and that's what matters most to me. He has the skill and the soul to make magic
