Sonata Arctica and Metallica displease me most. Sonata Arctica was the band I'd listen to because of its uplifting motives. Now they turned dark and mysterious with uncatchy chorous's. Metallica, no explaination needed. Children of Bodom haven't really changed much but I'm not fond of their new cd so far. Maybe it'll grow on me. I think Metallica should just be like Iron Maiden and tour their old songs. Oh yeah and lol at Dragonforce's "new" song

Yeah I said something like this in the other thread. I agree. Crawl through knives is amazing but their newest cd is almost. Dare I say emo? Sample of lyrics "OHHH I feel like ****! But at least I feel something" Okay no. Do not sing about your feelings. Sing about your steps being silent and your blooded trace.

well maiden are great, and the "caught somewhere in time" tour is really sth. i had a chance to see them in Poljud, Split. and the only things that i'll say about that are: steve harris is shorter than i thought, lauren harris is really a babe, and their costume designer has really great tits.
but they also lost their track a bit during the 90s. not as much as some other bands but they did it.

well for all of that i blame the uprising nu/emo "metal" culture. ok nu metal has some good songs and some good performers, but still it's a bad thing for old school metal that we're all missing.

Agreed. Its influencing our favourites negatively. How was emo even created? I bet it started with crappy bands trying to be Greenday. Godammit.
When a legendary band like System of a down creates a song like "lonely day" I point my finger at the worst fad ever

mod stuff: ImendiaBurzum no need to censor your comment since we all agree on that.cheers cheers cheers

what have we done to deserve that. come on ppl, where are the bands that were the targets of religious groups like kiss and black sabbath? where are millions off ppl that whistled to "wind of change"?

the problem is that the old forget that they were young once, and that they were like us. and the kids of today just think that the whole world is against them just because the majority of them are spoiled brats.

so for emo kids - here's a song that will you should play to your parents, and see that they aren't that different from you. and maybe then you can start listening to real music (i.e. not emo)

Good example with the song. I had these fad whores nowadays. Going through school I remember 4 years ago this guy was dressed insanely gangster and wore clothes 3 sizes too big for him at least. Now he's wearing skin tight clothes and his hair is over one of his eyes. Posers these days.

i miss bands like sodom. those ppl did or didn't have sth to say, but the way they formed it was amazing. they never gave a fu"k what sb had to say about them, they just went there and did their own thing. and NO ONE was too important or had too high position for them to attack in their songs.

now looking at it - rock and metal stood for rebellion, for individualism, for not wanting to be a corporate fool that blindly follows. well most of the time if you count out the bands that had "oh baby, baby" in every second line, and sometimes even they were open-minded, and touched the "forbidden" subjects.
metalheads, headbangers, punkers, rockers, bikers - we were all the same. anarchists with a reason, and a cause. freedom was our birth right.

so where is all that now? why are we criminals just because we have our individualism? and what's the worst thing - we're all "heaven sent, hell bent" idiots. always looking out for sb else, and we all end up the same way - misunderstood and left to rot.

(you may neglect this post since i'm pissed b/c i got stopped by the 5-0, again, for looking suspicious, again)

I have this one friend who is trying to convince me that nobody listens to metal. Only "those gothic teenagers" do. He said the only music people listen to is rock and rap, not metal. I hate that feeling when you know your right but someone just wont listen. He was saying that metal is a kid thing and by the time your 30 you grow out of it. I was so shocked by ignorance that I didn't reply

New Children Of Bodom CD is okay. I can't even tell what part is the chorus. I'll probably need to listen to it more to notice.

I'm not gonna lie. If I could choose any band to make a new cd it would be System of a down. I have listened to them more than anyone. I have listened to Sugar 51 times on itunes alone amd I still love it. I wish they didn't break off into two mediocre bands

then maybe i have sth that would interest you (as you'd kill me because i have it).

also we're moving from the topic a bit so

what do you think why isn't it possiable for the kids of today to have legendary bands like ac/dc, black sabbath, led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc.? is the world really taken such a large turn so that ppl accept only sell out bands that aren't worth a dime once you think about their lyrics? if we are returning to the age of hair metal with "oh baby, baby" in every second verse, where are the bands who don't put up with that crap like venom, metallica (before they sold out), slayer, etc.?

What I think that is kids these days will be influenced by their piers to act to fit in with "the guys". I would think that if they don't like a certain type of rock but all there friends do, they will easily adapt and not care how the album was produced. I think music is more of a popularity statement then an interest for some people.

Yeah
Thats exactly wut i mean about this Suckers Nowadays
Kid growing up with Ipods And Cellphones on Elementary school are really Fcked Up
I mean when i was on 4rth grade i didn`t knew wtf an Ipod was...
But theese days, well 2nd grade kids on my school talks about sex and they have like 2 cellphones and 1 Ipod and thats just messed up.
Growing with Cheap Ass comerical music is tearing real music fans apart.
But hey wtf can we do?
Mankind is driving itself towards failure
with all that shallowness surrounding Society
i dont give a F@ck about the look of the singer nor the bassist or drummer or how cute is his voice..when you check some of today lirycs like
"Opps I did it again"
with stuff like
"Sad But True" or "Novemver Rain"
You realize how Fcked up we are.
Anyway dude
all this stuff is making me craving for some Venom and Metallica.
So Leave you with this chineese proverb:

"If an emo crosses your way ...
KILL THE BASTARD"

Come to think of it. I miss guitar solo's in general. Seems soloing has become strictly european. Only a select group in North America has a solo section over 1 minute in length

i agree
sorry if im too much on the subject
but buckethead is probably the best shredder
of his time now (not ever just as of now for 2008)
he has at least 25 cds out of just plain guitar work

No prob man haha
But Buckethead is amazing. He is the pinacle of originality. All his songs are completely different. And the few songs he has with guest vocals like Serj Tankian are just plain awesome.

John Petrucci of Dream Theater is my favourite guitarist. He sweeps extremely fast and in almost every song. I think Under A Glass Moon is not a good representation that many people give, although that is a great solo. Stream Of Conciousness and This Dying Soul contains more shred elements

john petrucci is, in my opinion, the joe satriani of metal
he pretty much started the whole thing and went the whole extra mile
so many metal guitarists wanna be like him because hes so good and
hes so well how can i explain this his work is an orgasm to the ears

there is one guitarist that gets a wee bit too much credit and that
is, im sorry, herman li. He can play fast on albums but really his
guitar work is relitivly simple on where he is on the fretboard his picking is
fast too. but he cant play it live as well as anyone else.

Yeah I agree with the Herman Li thing. The I betcha can't play this column featuring him was just unprofessional. What he played didn't sound like Dragonforce but like an exercise. And when Sam was playing, why the hell was he playing with his hand upside down? He is on a guitar lesson video.

it just shows how unprofessional i thought the lesson was
