Read it here.

Uh... yea...

Only album on there I like is Mastodon. And I can't see it being #1 of the year.

Endgame was just amazingly terrible.

But, being all opinion, the best is that no one is wrong.

Well written my friend, I might make my list tonight and write about it. I really enjoyed Romulus, Endgame, and Blue Record as well. Wrath was a good album, but nothing will ever be better than Sacrament in my opinion. The Great Misdirect was decent, but wouldn't make my list. It would probably be in my top 30. I actually haven't heard Massive Agressive yet, but I need to look into it, as well as Deflorate. I also need to here more World Painted Blood, I've heard a few songs but they weren't that impressive. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the term, but I'm not a HUGE Slayer fan so I think the album would overall be "meh" to me. I've also never gotten into Cannibal Corpse, so I don't have an opinion about Evisceration Plague. I also haven't heard Crack the Skye yet, so my opinion is also reserved for that. Good read though, I'll have to check out the albums I haven't heard yet. Look for my list tonight, most likely.

Dude, have you watched Cannibal Corpse play? And really, they don't swear a lot. Some songs do, but a lot don't.

Crack the Skye is an album that needs to be listened to all the way through to get the full effect. It's incredible.

too bad they dont play like that on the albums....then i'd listen

and yes wookie, i love prog. i definitly know why you have to listen to albums in one sitting. i love that aspect.
crack the skye deff picks up momentum. i love this.
the singer is a bit....dull, but it doesnt make me not like it. i guess i do kinda dig the sludge-y vibe to it

Using that term loosely is kind of stupid. George Fisher isn't a singer. He's a vocalist.

Cannibal's vocals sucked at first to me. But that was before I was into modern metal a few years ago, and would go trolling around on youtube making fun of Cannibal Corpse vids. But I respect them now, and their vocalist has a good deep growl. But the music is a bit too bland for me. I love the more melodic music genres, like Power, Melo Death, Prog, Folk, etc. I also love good OSDM, but the more brutal kinds of death metal don't do anything for me really

Well it's too brutal (adjective meaning boring and unoriginal, in this sentence) for my ears, even if it isn't super duper brutal mega death metal.

I can't tell the difference between what people call brutal death and nasty grindcore

Genres aren't always perfect but I'd just call them tech death myself.

Most Brutal Death Metal is brutal just for the hell of it, being brutal is far more important to a lot of those bands than the actual songwriting process. That's why the sub genre is pretty damn boring and redundant to be honest with a dozen or so bands sounding exactly the same as the last dozen or so. The only new / modern Death Metal bands that interest me right now are Portal and Impetuous Ritual as they are pushing the enevelope and the boundaries of the genre. I still like a lot of the old school DM bands though even if I don't really listen to them a lot these days.

I've not had the opportunity to check out the album as of yet, is it worth a listen or is it simply a case of sounding like a collection of Obituary cast offs?.

True, but there are some gems in there. I haven't heard Impetuous Ritual, but Portal are amazing (though they aren't Brutal Death)

Stuff like Disgorge is almost goregrind, and it's the only sort of brutal death I can tolerate.

I never said Portal or Impetuous Ritual were "Brutal" Death Metal, I was speaking of them being at the forefront of redeveloping Death Metal as a single genre. I quite like Disgorge in your list Taxer, my friend is a big fan of theirs so I was pretty familiar with them and Lykathea Aflame is pretty cool too they have that middle eastern sound going on which is nice and a kinda progressive take on the genre.
