PostSubject: Bands of the Week #10   Thu Jan 21, 2010 1:01 am

I haven't done this thread in awhile, and it just dawned on me that I have been discovering music like crazy. I'm making a few changes, instead of making it two numbers each time when I have two bands, I'm just going to do multiple bands in each thread like this from now on. Just a minor change. Anyway, onto the music.

Pagan's Mind

Progressive/Power Metal

This band has quickly became one of my favorites, period. I have two albums from them, and I listen to them damn near daily. Either when I'm going to sleep, or when I'm driving, for the most part. It's just such cool music. It has profound prog elements, but not so much that you are constantly thinking about whether the time signature is 6/8 or 3/4. But the music does make you think. The way the music is written, it has this sci fi kinda atmosphere to it. Very cool. I think the lyrics contribute to this, but also the background synthesizers that provide massive atmosphere. But the music really is one giant atmosphere, you have to hear it to understand it. It's progressive metal, but I would also say fans of power metal would enjoy it, as they have that Dream Theater kinda sound. Very proggy, but clearly influenced by power metal. Anyway, here are a few recommendation songs (a few favorites of mine, from the album Enigamtic: Calling). Below is the download link. This is by far my favorite album so far, the songs are so easy to get into and haven't got boring yet (I've listened to it for a few months now)

Draconian

Gothic/Doom Metal

I've raved about this band before, I'm positive of that, but I can't get over how good they are. They are just talented. It is doom metal, but it has clear gothic influences such as the clean female vocals in parts. But this band is general win, especially the album "Arcane Rain Fell". Daylight Misery has one of the coolest bass lines ever, very bluesy sounding. The growler has a good melancholic growl, which mixes with the female vocals amazingly well. I think it's worth a listen to anyone, it is really one of the best doom bands I've ever heard.

Daylight Misery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BTllwj3SxY
A Scenery of Loss - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkYrQQpeL-s
(incidentally, my two favorite tracks are the first two off of "Arcane Rain Fell")

Byd, this is how it starts, you know. One day it's "I like Blink 182", the next it's "I think I like men".

These bands are all right and stuff, but nothing that no one has heard about.

I have heard a little from them, I have the album "character", but it doesn't get many listens. Would you recommend a better one? They're good, that album's just not great to me.

Awesome! Glad you like it!

This is definitely one of my favorite bands right now, probably top twenty all time.

ok then
my fav albums are
Character
Fiction
Damage Done

i think i speak for taxer when i say his favorite album is Gallery
that album has a very traditional Gothenmburg style. i really like it, too bad i have a really crappy copy. this sounds similar to the first In Flames album

Fiction is more melodeath. i like this album alot, id suggest that one. but hey, if you aint a fan, then you aint a fan. nothing i can do, know what i mean?
im just have a huge man-crush on Mikael Stanne. he is awesome

I definitely like them, they're just one of those bands that I never have time to listen to, you know what I mean?

I'll try fiction man. In fact, I think I heard an awesome song by them on Last.fm and it was on that album, it was on my notepad file for albums to download, but my computer crashed and forgot about it
