I've got three albums for you guys, but they are three different styles so hopefully there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Let's get started.

Spectral Lore - II
Genre: ambient black metal
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?hdt3fnzk2yj

This album is really good. I've talked to a few of you about this band to see if anyone has heard of it, so it seems to be relatively unknown. It is the one man project of Ayloss. Anyway, the album quickly became one of my favorites of the genre. I would recommend it to anyone here who likes black metal in general, especially the ambient stuff like Vargnatt, Burzum, Austere, etc. This is a fairly long album, ending at just over an hour. EDIT: Sorry for the rapidshit downloads, they were the only ones I could find that worked

Persefone - Shin-Ken
Genre: progressive/melodic death metal
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?zkeymyxmimi

This is an album I got just recently after skimming the internet for something new, and I must say it has blown my mind. I've been neglecting to mention them because of this event, because I expect that a few of you will really fall in love with it. It's sooooo good. It's definitely progressive metal, but it has harsh vocals and a more melo death vibe to it than bands like Dream Theater. Enjoy! (especially you, Brute)

Pagan's Mind - Enigmatic : Calling
Genre: progressive/power metal
Download: www.mediafire.com/?f8genscvamw

I got this album last year, around November I believe, and it's still one of the most played albums for me. I listen to it a few times a week at least, because it's that good. It's progressive metal as well, but it's progressive power metal. The vocals are clean and very good, and the music has a much more "epic" feel to it. In fact, the album as a whole tells a story, so that also helps to give it that epic feel. The solos are one of the best things about this band, they are so inspired and filled with soul. Definitely not weak in the slightest. This should be well enjoyed by prog fans and by power metal fans, so those of you who don't like extreme metal as much will feel right at home.

This looks like it's going to be a fun list to listen to. I'm going to try to get through this stuff tomorrow.

I really was dreading your list Axe, honestly... But oddly, the two albums I thought I'd hate, I loved, and the album I thought I'd like, was meh...

Spectral Lore gets a B, kinda cool but I feel like I've heard it before.

Persefone is really cool, I need to get used to the vocals, but it's cool enough melodeath that they're not off-putting enough for me not to like it as a whole. B+

I thought I'd hate Pagan's Mind, but again, the instrumentals are cool enough for me to be able to get used to the vox. This is probably my favorite so far, and definitely the rare power metal I can get into, all the coolness without the screechy dude singing about elves. A.

Overall, thumbs way up.

Wow thanks man! Glad to hear you enjoyed the list

Spectral Lore is really good, but it's not really unique. It's not really... generic, but I can see how a huge fan of black metal might think they've heard it before

as for the list:
already have Shin-Ken....it isnt my FAVORITE album my them, their first two were fantastic, so following that act is tough. Core is amazing and Truth Inside the Shades is pretty solid, though quite different from shin-ken. if anyone liked persefone, i recommend trying their other 2 albums

as for pagens mind (le sigh) i shall try it this time start to finish with an open mind

as for the first one spectral lore...seems interesting. seems we have alot of ambient black metal these days...looking forward to being wowed, though wont be disappointed when it doesnt wow me Razz
solid list axe, though i was expecting something a tad more underground

God dammit you know about Persefone?!

And here I thought I found something cool and unknown. That was really the one I thought I would get you with lol. Anyway, maybe if you are forced to listen to Pagan's Mind you might enjoy the album. As for the black metal, there isn't a lot of vocals in it you might actually enjoy it. But, I'm most definitely not holding my breath lol. Thanks for giving them a try though

I'm glad you enjoyed it man, I ran across it maybe 2 weeks ago and I fell in love immediately.I'm going to have to follow Brute's advice and look for their previous 2 efforts though.

How did you like Pagan's Mind, or have you not listened to it? That was the band I showed you awhile back that you enjoyed.

Fuck, I just realized I had no folk metal on here. I'm sad now.

Persefone is much more angry and Pagan's Mind is much more epic. I think it has to do with the core style of playing (melo death/power metal). I'm going to find the other Persefone albums today and make an acquisition thread for it, because I am fucking in love with it now.

dude, im linking you right now. i mean, im not hating on shin-ken, but i gave it one or two listens and i kept going back to core. truth inside the shades is really odd. its like they are still squirrly since it is their first album, but it is really fantastic and unique.

Core is not angry. it tells a story. shin ken is alittle angry, but then again you are comparing it to (almost) power metal
dude, i cant sell this enough

So far, you were the only one who hasn't heard of them. They are quite unknown, just FUCKING DIES showed them to you lol. You were talking about my post wasn't too underground, but I had never heard ANYONE mention Persefone before. My Pagan's Mind hype was frequent, and no one I talked to had ever heard of Spectral Lore.

twas my intention

yeah., i want to listen to spectral lore, but im giving shin-ken a listen.
he 'twas useful.

i love persefone for the progressive factor. shin-ken doesnt have it, but core does. 3 songs nearing 25 min a piece. it makes me smile

Well it still has a huge progressive factor (non metal instruments, complex time/key signatures, etc) it's just broken up into smaller songs. An album doesn't have to be 3 20 minute songs to be prog, you know

Spectral Lore is definitely worth the listen, it does have some stand-out aspects even for me, after listening to 3290471208975982375832975 other ambient BM bands.

There have been a couple weird moments on the album when I thought I was listening to WITTR.

There have been a couple weird moments on the album when I thought I was listening to WITTR.

I got that familiar feeling as well. Glad you found it worth the time, man

Spectral Lore:
not my thing. sorry chap. im sure for what it was, it was good. however i cant stand the vocals and that whole "ambient" thing. 3/10. Nothing against you, just blahhh

Persefone: I actually sat down again and listened to the album and i wasnt at work. it was pretty decent. i mean, i really like Core, but Shin-Ken was much different and i really enjoyed it. now that i remember what it was, i feel as though i can reevaluate my review
8/10.

and ill give pagens mind another shot later...

Does anyone know where I can get the Persefone lyrics for this album. I want to play it on my radio show tonight, but I need to know it's clean.

Ahh, c'mon, just do what I did on my high school radio station: If anyone calls in complaining, just say "I'm sure you heard it wrong".

And then if they look up the lyrics, insist the website is wrong.

And if they contact the band, insist the band is wrong.

Lying is always the best course of action, really.

You'd be surprised... We played Take a Walk on the Wild Side, and the teacher who ran the station got flooded with complaints. Good thing he was cool, because he totally stuck up for us and bitched one parent out pretty good for being a homophobic asshole.

And my station is publicly aired over the span of like 50 miles. So... I need to be careful. The FCC is watching and I don't need a $12,000 fine on top of my bills for school.

Everybody had to pay and pay"

LOL, yea man you're not alone. I've heard it played at weddings and shit, and cackled madly to myself, because everyone just thinks it's this cool sounding song, and never listens to the lyrics.

Or....

I met her in a club
down in old Soho
where you drink champagne
and it tastes just
like cherry cola
C-O-L-A cola

She walked up to me
and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name
and in a dark brown voice
she said Lola
L-O-L-A Lola
la la la la Lola

Well I'm not the world's
most physical guy
but when she squeezed me tight
she nearly broke my spine
oh my Lola
la la la la Lola
Well I'm not dumb
but I can't understand
why she walked like a woman
and talked like a man
oh my Lola
la la la la Lola
la la la la Lola

Well we drank champagne
and danced all night
under electric candle light
she picked me up and
sat me on her knee
and said "Dear boy
won't you come home with me?"

Well I'm not the world's
most passionate guy
but when I looked in her eyes
I almost fell for my
Lola la la la la Lola
la la la la Lola
Lola la la la la Lola
la la la la Lola

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
Well I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
then I looked at her
and she at me

Well that's the way
that I want it to stay
and I always want it
to be that wayfor my Lola
la la la la Lola

Girls will be boys
and boys will be girls
it's a mixed up
muddled up
shook up world
except for Lola
la la la la Lola

Well I left home just
a week before
and I'd never ever kissed
a woman before
but Lola smiled and
took me by the hand
and said "Dear boy
I'm gonna make you a man"

Well I'm not the world's
most masculine man
but I know what I am
and I'm glad I'm a man
and so is Lola
la la la la lola
la la la la Lola
Lola la la la la Lola
la la la la Lola
