PostSubject: Decade Music: The Psychadelic 70's   Sun Mar 07, 2010 2:14 am

So Black Sabbath thought that it would be a good idea to make "Horror Music" to scare people, much in the same way some movies are made. The idea caught on...for a little bit, but then metal took some strange twists into leather and spikes and even vikings.

In chronological order, I present you the decade of metal in the 70s.

Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath

Now, there really wasn't anything very "metal" released here, so why not suck Sabbath's cocks until '73?

Black Sabbath- Electric Funeral

Black Sabbath- Into the Void
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mda8RBiEkcc

Ok, now there is a band who is influenced by Sabbath! Huzzah! 1973 is where the reproduction began!

Bedemon- Through the Gates of Hell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-qQVPYq8mw

Bedemon was actually an early side project of Pentagram. Though their first album wasn't released until 1985, Pentagram had many highly bootlegged demos throughout the 70s.

Pentagram- Walk in the Blue Light

In 1974, a band began a career that would change the face of metal forever. You may have heard of them. Their name is Judas Priest.

Judas Priest- Victim of Changes

As the decade of the 1970s turned to late, the sound of mainstream metal was emerging from what Judas Priest had started. Metal was becoming a genre with a hard rock vibe, and bands such as Scorpions, Iron Maid-

WAIT A MINUTE.

This is not a small undertaking, people. In 1979 Iron Maiden recorded their infamous demo tape The Soundhouse Tapes. The band gained enormous popularity and soon became a mainstream metal giant, but we'll get to that at a later time (well, the next thread).

In this time the metal underground was forming, creating the oh-so-familiar line between the mainstream and underground. Band were showing their creativity, as modeled by this US band that released their album From the Fjords in 1979. This was no ordinary metal album, because it had a theme that every metalhead is familiar with:

VIKINGS!

Legend- The Golden Bell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz33Cq2tI5U

The album is one of the most desired of all time, with mere bootlegs breaching the $500 mark, and actual copies selling for well over $1000.

This about wraps it up, people, and prepare for a lot more shit in the 80s.

This is legendary lol. Other's add comments and thoughts to past and current decades of music you are listening to and possibly some you dont and others you just know alot about.

In the 70's, many things happened, some good, some bad *ehem disco ehem*, as far as we know, a band came around that changed a good portion of the face of music. Their name was Led Zeppelin. Perhaps you like them, perhaps not, but there is no denying they had a MAJOR influence on the generation of music to come around, from Robert Plant's high pitched vocals which were copied enough to make them a standard in the 70's, to the screaming guitar solos influenced by the blues from Jimmy Page, and out of all this also came a hit that many consider one of the greatest rock songs of all time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9TGj2jrJk8

It's screaming popularity will bring the facepalm's of doom, but the song is a giant now and even is banned in most guitar shops and such.

lol @ facepalms of doom

I should've added something about Sabbath going down the shitter, but I'm listening to guys rant about dream theater in a satirical way during podcast and I can in no way laugh while I say how much Technical Ecstasy sucks.

They became good after they got rid of Ozzy, but seriously Ozzy's last couple of albums were utter shit.

Agreed. I refuse to add The Beatles, no matter how much I like them.

Wrong right off the bat. The song Black Sabbath is total fucking doom metal. But yeah, Ozzy sucks. On a side note, Legend are awesome. They don't get enough credit for their contributions in metal.
