PostSubject: Trivium live at Glasgow Barrowlands   Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:02 pm

The night started off pretty well. Especially with the truly epic moment of my 12-year-old brother shouting "Nickelback suck!" and getting cheers from at least 10 people.

Anyway, the first support band, White Chapel, were on as we went in. I'd never heard of them before but they managed to impress me fairly well. Their vocalist especially good, the guy had some great range and was brilliant at whipping the crowd into a frenzy. I think they'll do well as a headlining act.

The second band, Chimaira, were, again, unknown to me. But I loved them. They had some great songs that really got the punters hyped up and singing along to the choruses. Heck, I'd never even heard of them before and I still did my best to sing any lyrics I caught onto.

Finally, it was time for the main event. After getting a thumbs up from bassist Paolo Gregoletto as we spotted him getting ready during the sound check, the band exploded on stage with the first song from Ascendancy, Rain, instantly whipping up a sea of moshing, headbaging and devil horns. They tore through their first three songs until their momentum was brought to a halt by a broken snare drum. Guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy still managed to keep the crowd entertained while the drum problem was adressed with some brilliant between song banter. After the drums were back in acton, the tore right back into their brilliant catalogue. The setlist focused heavily on their second album, Ascendancy and their newest album, Shogun. I didn't complain though. Those two are easily the band's best works. Apart from that, one song from each of their other two albums were played along with a cover of Sepultra's Slave New World. The band kept up a fantastic show all the way through and managed to conjure up the biggest mosh pit I've ever seen with probably their biggest hit, Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr.

We left the Barrowlands with our heads, necks, ears and legs aching like fuck and not able to hear a thing, but it was damn well worth it.

this.....is....surprising coming from you dark....

and i would argue that while ascendency is good.....Shogun is infinity better. they sound more like a band rather than your friends band.
i saw them at mayhem. they do know how to preform live....unlike All That Remains

glad you had fun. living vicariously through someone elses concert experience regardless of the bands is always fun

Wow sounds like a great time Dark. I like Trivium a lot (only metalcore band I like, actually. Unless you count Lamb of God). I'm not a fan of deathcore at all (Whitechapel) but some deathcore bands have a lot of energy live and can be much more enjoyable.

well the losers in front of me in the line to get in were like "Dude, ATR is good, but they suck live" i asked why and they replied that the singer didnt do much. he sings half the lines and it isnt very good.
so, i had that in my head going into it, then once i saw it i could only see the flaws.
they were good, but their flaws were just so evident.

put it to you this way, if they headlined, i dont think id go, but mayhem was awesome, and im glad i got to meet ATR, they signed my shirt. it was so bad-ass

Aaah ok makes sense I guess I have low expectations for bands stage presence at festivals anyway because it isn't optimal conditions.

Hey, I said they were good, wouldn't buy one of their albums though.

And I agree with you completely, I love Shogun. It's a brilliant mix of the two different sounds they used in Ascendancy and The Crusade. They probably focused on it because that's where their most popular songs came from like Dying In Your Arms and Pull Harder.

I almost forgot, too. They also played Shattering The Skies Above, their new song they released for God Of War 3. Very good song.

Dunno really. I love Down From The Sky and Into The Mouth Of Hell We March from Shogun, and from the other albums there's stuff like Anthem, Pull Harder, Dying In Your Arms, Becoming The Dragon etc.
Guess I don't really have a definite favourite song of theirs.
