And they look at you like you have 3 heads and octopus legs?

"Yeah this band is heavy, although you'll notice that there are folk elements which creates melody out of the harshness of the black metal roots."
"Folk? As in country? I don't like the sounds of this"
"Uhhh, how about Doom metal, its pretty chill"
"Doom?!"
"....*Puts on Sum 41*"

Yes, some people will never understand I think. (Or at least won't try to).
& they also get confused with the terms 'heavy' and 'brutal'.

they think i sacrifice goats...
they would be right, but i have told them time and time again it is only virgins....(Suuuuuuper old reference for our forum)

but yeah, my friends are all indie fans. not that its bad, but i tell them its all about instrumentality and power. no one seems to get it.

Yes yes I have, sometimes it works sometimes they stare lol. It's almost as bad as trying to show some people what the bass part in a song is because for some reason no one I know seems to know what a bass guitar sounds like.

I avoid talking to my friends about metal, unless they like it. I hate them looking at me like I'm an idiot, although I think it's stupid that a lot of people don't realize there's different metal subgenres

A few of my friends are starting to get into more metal. For about the first year after I got into newer metal (post early 1990s) none of my friends knew about any of the bands I was getting into.

I wont lie. The most underground band I knew was Sabaton when I created this. I have no life in the summer, and spend most of my free time with residence people or at the gym....Or school, lol

I don't think so because that takes away from a valid genre, by that logic it would be easier to destroy the word metal as well.

People never understand folk metal or *sorry taxer* viking metal. I mean, we went and played, and they thought it would be comedic, WRONG, no comedic value.
