In general, no, but I was refering to the song I posted: when the vocals first come in with the keyboards, it is so power metal.

if you watch interviews with there singer, he mentions how he is really into fantasy d&d kinda topics and is trying to stear the band toward that. they write kinda fantasy lyrics if you havent noticed

Their music is not power metal. Progressive metal/mathcore.
This is the first time I've ever heard someone refer to them as power metal.
Mathcore? Say what now?

What don't you get?

Math rock/core/metal/whatever is just a style of music where they use a lot of odd time signatures. Unless your on the same boat as Brute, in which case...
A time signature is just a fancy way of saying how many beats per measure/what note gets the beat. So... most songs are in either 4/4 or 3/4. Meaning a quarter note gets the beat, and four/three quarter notes are in a measure. An odd time signature would be something like 5/4 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC59a_GXCo4 - this song is entirely in 5/4), 7/4, etc.

Math bands like to use multiple time signatures in short phrases, which come out sounding something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amodU65_Qt4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_3gXXrSLn8

Basically, take a random metal song and count to four in rhythm. It will match up.
Try to count to one of those songs I linked.

Yeah, I know what time signatures are, I'm doing Standard Grade Music. LOL

I just thought there'd be more to it than wierd time signatures.

Mostly, Dark, it's just a branch of progressive metal which utilizes stranger time signatures. I personally think it's kinda a BS genre, might as well just call it progressive metal because odd time signatures are also a trait of a progressive band. But it's legit I suppose.

Personally I don't consider Protest the Hero mathcore. Mathcore is more than just odd time signatures, it has to have an element of spazz, and more technicality than mere time signatures can generate. Mathcore to me is stuff like Psyopus:

A bit more fucked up than you're average mathcore band, but you get the point.

Eh, I'm bigger on instrumental math rock. The things I linked are good examples of what I like.
