Oh look, more fruity folk, we've not seen any around here recently *sighs in long suffering yet sarcastic manner*. I shall balance it out with something worthwhile:

No. There's folk music, then there's fruity pop metal with cheesy keyboards instead of actual folk instruments: Ensiferum are the latter. I wouldn't expect much else from a band signed to Spinefarm, even if Swallow the Sun and Killing Joke are with them.

Actual folk instruments? I guess electric guitars and drumkits are folk instruments then?

I love all kinds of folk metal, from the most underground "garbage" to the most "poppy" garbage. An Ensiferum is amazing, so... so... YOUR FACE! Ha!

You're still saying that you like "garbage"

And yeah, I'm really sick and tired of the sugary folk metal that has become popular of the past few years. I need something with more depth, but sadly I always get the cheesy stuff whenever I ask for good folk metal.

I could give you any kind of folk metal you wanted, so just because I like Ensifeurm doesn't mean I can't like other things. But it's your loss, the way I see it is the more music I like, the better off I am.

I already knew of Fen, Vali, Of the Wand and Moon, Ancient Rites, The Morningside and October Falls and they really don't fit the bill other than The Morningside (Either just neo-folk, or black metal). The other two you posted just sounded more like black metal to me.

Well looks like I failed you. There might not be much folk metal you like then, because I listen to or have heard of just about all of it. And the things most similar to Agalloch are usualyl neofolk bands, because Agalloch really only has a dash of folk thrown in.

I personally think it just your egos that are blocking the acceptance of this "cheezy folk metal"

I never listen to any music that could be considered fun. It's just for shallow people with no soul. Only one flavor of folk is worth tasting.

Thank you for posting that empyrium song. I now know what to stray away from when searching for folk metal. It was mindless boredom compacted into a 9 minute song. Actually, I wouldn't expect more from a band posted by your lonesome self.

See, I am purposefully being an e-thug, though I am not being serious. I actually hated the song you posted, but without your comments, I would not have said that.

I should get people that play all the instruments my keyboard plays in my bands songs. That won't be a hassle. I need a pizzicato strings, muzette, pan flute, piccolo, piano, brass section, string section, music box? and plenty of other sounds. That won't cost lots of money at all!!

I have enjoyed Ensiferum so much, but they are not real folk, more like cheesy folk, but they are good in my opinion. Oh, and Ensiferum makes terrible music videos.

Dude, I helped introduce the band to alot of the forum. I liked them for 2 years. It's all great. But it's not folk lol.

Cheesy folk is good once in a blue moon, but it really has no depth. It's just supposed to be mindless fun. Nothing more, and nothing less.

depends what you consider to be depth. there are different genres for a reason. people find meaning in different things. I get mad goosebumpos listening to equilibrium and stuff you consider to be cheesy. you cant honestly beleive that the majority of these musicians actually had the intention of being depthless cheezy bands. real musicians form bands to try to create good music that expresses themself. if their expression is cheezy to you, thats just your perception of it. MANY others think differently.

I doubt they intended it, but seriously, you gotta stand also from a viewpoint of regular folk music from that region of Europe and mixing it with metal. Ensiferum is thrash with serious folk elements. It's great music. But Falkenbach and Equilibrium are more folky then Ensiferum by a long shot.

Oh well I like everything. Sue me. And Link, Ensiferum is folk. Some people think only real folk metal is the black metal with some folk elements, but Ensiferum utilizes folk instruments (keys in concerts), and actually has folky structures to the songs. If it isn't folk metal, I guess nothing is.

Personally, I don't care if it's cheesey or "real folk". I like it, that's all that matters to me.

fuck guys.
its almost as if i can predict what everyone will say. sheesh

i think that both have their place. sure ensiferum are fun once in a while for me now. but if i want something to think about, its neoclassical shit and all that jazz.

i swear im normal when i say "everyday is not a rape and pillage kind of day"
