PostSubject: Axe's Recent Favorites   Fri May 21, 2010 6:49 pm

I just thought I'd make a thread about some new bands I've been getting into, in hopes that some of you will find something you like.

Brocken Moon
Atmospheric black metal at it's finest. I know some of you aren't necessarily fans of this type of black metal, but this band really has an atmosphere that drags you in. It goes through periods of great beauty, immediately followed by an incredibly intense and powerful section. Definitely worth a try.

Download: mediafire.com ?midmfndxjyu

Fen
Those of you who are aware of Fen's existence most likely love them. It's very atmospheric black metal, but with some post-rock elements and slight folk elements thrown in for good measure. But don't let that turn you away, it all mixes very well into a unique and amazing experience.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5BpEMKGPSQ
Download: mediafire.com ?iztdlitvjj3

Kauan
Doom metal, with ambient and post-rock elements. Depending on which album you listen to by them, it will be more doom or more post-rock. But it's really all good. This band's style is really hard to describe aside from that. I'd say it's a band you either like or don't, but they're definitely worth a try, especially if you like relaxing and beautiful music.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ij4--ZxRQk
Download: www.mediafire.com/?fm2zyjmxuoj

Tides
A sludge metal band that really stood out to me. I'd say they're one of the best in the genre, but I'm not a HUGE sludge fan, so I really couldn't say with any credibility. Still, they stood out to me so I'd say they're worth a listen for any sludge/doom fan. I'd say they also appeal to anyone who likes black metal - particularly the atmospheric kind. Tides also has a bit of a post-rock sensibility, so expect that thrown in. Very good though.

Download: megaupload.com 2KYQNK63

Urfaust
A black metal band hailing from the Netherlands. Really a good group. Atmospheric elements are present, especially in the dark ambient sections. But also expect to hear profound clean vocals, something that is fairly uncommon in the black metal scene.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5aFbl4p4wM
Download: mediafire.com ?mzthwbrmzyo

Vāli
Not metal, but I want you all to try it. It's a beautiful neo-folk project by a few black metal musicians. But I cannot stress how beautiful it is. I got one of their albums that is around thirty five minutes long, and when it was done I felt like I had been listen to it for 5 minutes. It sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wU2DMebGZ4
Download: mediafire.com ?v4n2mmmd2zh

Vargnatt
I've had the Nur ein Traum demo for some time, but only recently picked up the Wintergrab demo, which is almost equally as good. But this group is really one of the leaders in the atmospheric black metal scene. They have two demos out now, with a third demo coming very soon and a full length announced for something in the future. Definitely worth a listen, they are one of my favorites in the genre.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKHPZk1Oock
Download: mediafire.com ?ynm02wwww4o

Lunar Aurora
I wonder if anyone has noticed that I've been in a black metal mood lately. Anyway, here's another amazing black metal band with nearly unrivaled atmosphere. I mean, really breathtaking. And top-notch songwriting. It rarely, if ever, gets boring to me.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm4Jem6tnEY
Download: mediafire.com ?zymhyjmhddn

Ghost Brigade
Time to change it up a little. Here's a solid little progressive metal band I recently found out about. It is really good. Fans of Be'lakor, Crystalic, Amorphis, and In Mourning should feel right at home.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkDw9rRl--w
Download: mediafire.com ?h4dijnyzymh

Hopefully there's something here you guys like.

Have you heard of Children of Bodom? You should give them a try.
Lol.

I'll check these out soon. I recognize a few. Lunar Aurora I never really gave a chance so I'm interested in hearing them again.

Started listening now
Brocken Moon- Wow this is absolutely outstanding. Thanks for sharing, your musical knowledge is skyrocketing

The next two were just as good! What a hack!

Okay third edit here. I can't even say anything else without sounding monotonous. I've only heard of two of these, and the others are amazing. I am literally absorbing everything here. Every single sample song has struck home

I hope you realize by "yes" it means I'm downloading it and listening to it and probably going to be liking it a lot. I think you've shown me more bands I like than I've shown you bands you like now. I'm not sure. Either way this whole thread just screams at me to start getting my act together and finding new music. Some really impressive songs in this list Axe. Thanks a ton.

Also when I listen to your music recommendations I can often know kind of what to expect. Always bold emotions and especially solemn, depressive, atmospheric, etc., "beautiful."

A lot of it, I wasn't keen on, but I'm definetly not a fan of atmospheric/ambient black metal, or much black metal at all to be honest.

Never been keen on stuff like that. It's not that I particularly don't like it, it just doesn't do much for me.

But, then again, I used to hate folk metal and now I can't get enough of Ensiferum...I need some more folk.
