PostSubject: Bands of the Week #11   Mon Aug 02, 2010 2:28 am

The candidate for the most ignored recurring thread is back! I mainly named it this because I couldn't think of a better title for a list of bands I wanted to show you guys. Oh well, let's get started.

Barren Earth
Genre: Progressive/Melodic Death Metal
Origin: Finland

I don't know if any of you have Comcast cable, but I was listening to the shitty music choice metal radio station a few weeks back and this band popped up. I thought it was rather strange considering the station usually plays bullshit -core. But it immediately appealed to me, and after I looked them up and listened to a few of their songs I was thoroughly impressed. It's first and foremost a melodic death metal sound, but with some progressive elements thrown in for good measure. Definitely worth a listen for fans of either genre.

Dornenreich
Genre: Melodic Black Metal
Origin: Austria

It was by chance that I ran across this band. I followed a link on the bottom of Agalloch's wikipedia page to an interview with John Haughm (Agalloch) and it happened to be a double interview also featuring Eviga from Dornenreich. It peaked my interest in the band because if John Haughm likes it, it must be worth a try. I was surprised at Dorenreich's style, but it was a pleasant surprise. Their music is sorta like Emperor, but with many more styles thrown in. Overall, it's very difficult to describe but very delicious.

Adagio
Genre: Progressive/Symphonic Metal
Origin: France

France has a knack for making good progressive metal. Well, not really I suppose, but two of my favorite progressive bands are from there, the bands of course being Kalisia and Adagio. Adagio is like Mozart's great great great great grandchildren. Fantastic piano work and classical interludes separate sections of awesome, delicious prog. And I knew it was going to be good from the moment I read their description on the Archives, because they use my two favorite metal adjectives. Progressive and symphonic.

Dornenreich was pretty cool, but I'd have to hear more of it to decide if I liked it

Adagio reminds me a little bit of Kamelot... kind of. Palpi of Lor might like them me thinks

Can I get in on this next week?

I hate all these genres most of the time but I'll try some of them out.
