These are all melodic and fairly good. Randomly pick two if your lazy. Blazing Eternity is my favourite

Heh, does it count if I've already heard Falls of Rauros and In the Woods?

I have a little bit of a problem with Falls of Rauros rough production but past that it's always been well organized music. I just wish they'd pay more attention to mastering on future records. If given the chance to breathe, these compositions can go pretty damn far.

In the Woods is classic and if you haven't heard them yet, you've been under a fucking rock.

I'll listen to Blazing Eternity to seal the deal and post later. Thanks for sharing...

Hah cool man thanks. Blazing Eternity is a pretty fun band. The song I posted is slow in pace but it always seems really powerful when the vocals come in after the song spends a while with just instruments.

Downloading now.

Can we stop doing three albums though? It's becoming less of a one off now and it's gonna end up being how it was before. I'm behind as it is.

I hope Blazing Eternity was the good. I find those guys to be incredible. Such a melodic beat it would definitely be a band I wouldn't mind to die listening to.

Blazing Eternity strike the Katatonia nerve; the sort of nuance I heard between Brave Murder Day and Discouraged Ones. There are a few bands that particularly remind me of this stark, composition-forward music (Ghost Brigade, Novembre). I'm going to find myself listening to this a lot.

Thanks, byd.

Bit of a vague review cos I was really paying attention when I listened to them to be completely honest. LOL

In short...

Blazing Eternity: Good. I could really get into this.

Falls Of Rauros: Alright. Sounded a little like Agalloch but if I want good Agalloch sounding stuff, I'd rather just listen to Agalloch.

In The Woods: Awesome. Loving this.

I listened to Blazing Eternity a few things. Not sure what to think. It does sound quite a bit like Katatonia. I'm probably just not in the mood for it at the moment. I'll probably have to listen to it some more later on. If I do I'll let you know any new thoughts I have on it. It sounds like something that I could probably get into, just not right now. That's probably really uneventful to read so I apologize for that lol.

I have yet to listen to the other one but I have it so I will soon.

Is it just me or do bands suffer a lot these days from Katatonia or Agalloch syndrome? Don't get me wrong, I love them both more than I love living (not a decent benchmark, but bear with me) and all but a lot of bands seem to follow a particular vein with all of this.

It isn't a bad thing to me; quite honestly it would piss me off if those two were the only bands able to do their thing. It's why I could appreciate Blazing Eternity for what it did; it didn't straight rip off Brave Murder Day like I've heard some doom bands try to pull off.

Yet, when it comes to the Agalloch soundalikes, it's anything with black metal and acoustic guitars that attempts to be moody. I can't help but find it ironic that people believe that Agalloch pioneered this sort of sound on their own, and can only feel obligated to point you in the direction of their immediate influences for music that, in all seriousness, sounds precisely like what Agalloch did before Agalloch even played a part. Falls of Rauros only suffers from production as far as I'm concerned; everything else there was as solid as could be.

I'm not even going to talk about In the Woods... That would just be telling. Go listen to it.

Really appreciate that defense, said it better than I ever could. Unfortunately your post got diluted by nothingness

Well, I agree with the Katatonia comment, though partially with the Agalloch comment. Pale Folklore has a strong Katatonia and Empyrium influence, but I can't really say I've heard The Mantle or Ashes Against the Grain done the way they are done before.

Go look at Ashes Against the Grain then Random Post-Rock Band #1545 and tell me it doesn't sound influenced. Sure, Agalloch do it a particular way (namely with Our Fortress is Burning, that old Western clean get-up) but they've blatantly said they're fans of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and if the shoe fits...

I'm not at all saying Agalloch are wrong for having influences but what they've done had been done previous. The Mantle is a different story entirely; it might be their one album where they set aside conventional approaches to metal and went for something totally their own.

This sub-genre of the Agallochesque is certainly something I'd like to see grow (it has and it will, see: Alcest, Les Discrets, The Morningside, Falls of Rauros, Fen, and a sea of others) and so long as Falls of Rauros keep going, then to hell with it.

I still think Death in June, Current 93 and Sol Invictus are responsible for the onset of good music, though.

Well, what I mean is more along the lines of "clones" and stuff. If you go listen to Carcass' first three albums and then listen to pretty much every Goregrind band you'll think "oh yeah this has a huge Carcass influence/tries to emulate what they do." I haven't heard the whole doom/folk post-rocky stuff done the way Agalloch does it. While it does have elements of what bands have done before, prior to the release I haven't heard something that synthesizes those elements in such a way that I think "oh Agalloch took influence/copied band A"

That's essentially what I'm saying; Agalloch did go against the grain (heh, heh) and used influences to their advantage on a couple of their efforts, but if you'll tell me that you haven't heard The White EP before I'll gladly point you to Of the Wand and the Moon's Emptiness, Emptiness, Emptiness...

Falls of Rauros won't get away from being in Agalloch's vein unless they're wolves and they evolve, and that's absolutely fine with me; I doubt they're looking to pioneer a new sound from within that sub-genre. Quite the opposite, they're providing more material to be digested in a similar atmosphere that people who appreciate the band that spurred their creativity will hopefully treat the same. There's nothing wrong with it, and if Agalloch were the only band allowed to do it, I'd be sorely disappointed.

On the topic of goregrind, though, everything is a clone of Carcass -- so what the fuck are you saying? Original goregrind exists?
