PostSubject: Musician Thread   Sat Jan 01, 2011 9:22 pm

Alright, there is no stable, lasting thread for this, so it's about time that one was created.

Discuss your equipment, and equipment you covet (post some fucking pictures), that way we can bicker and fight about who's rig blows and what gear is superior, ya'll seem to like doing that.
Post tasty riffs, exercises, song tabs that you find helpful, beneficial, or just plain awesome (post inside thread or use Powertab or something like that).
Share your projects, either solo or with your band, videos of covers and what not, get yourself some well earned respect for your shred abilities.
Talk about those bands and artists that you draw inspiration from, and fight some more!
Give one another support and tips on playing, answer questions, don't patronize.

This is open to all musicians: guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, and yes, even the keyboards.
Sorry if I posted this under the wrong section.

I'm in desperate need of new pickups and amp.

I'm pretty set on a Dragonfire 81 and 85 active set, and for amp, I've been looking into Peavey.

Estimated set back, $700.

that will set him back more then 700 even used. love that head though. i would get either that or a mesa duel rectifier if i had the cash. if i had even MORE cash, i would get a diezel anything (herbert or einstein methinking), and an orange thunderverb. Sad this is impossible though. i think both of those would set me back like 7-10 grand or something.

i said i would get actual pics of my stuff but turns out im too lazy.

guitars

amp

plus random other little amps, a keyboard amp, a pa system

pedal board i havent taken a picture of, but i run an original crybaby, zakk wylde OD, metal zone (for practices- avoid for recording and try to avoid for live), boss super chorus, mxr 6- band eq, boss reverb.

have keyboards, but they are unimpressive looking and dont feel like finding pictures.

i hardly think the difference matters between the high and low end besides certain materials. like gibsons, i think you just end up paying for the name at a certain point. i see plenty of pros using ltds. i love mine as well, though i have never really played it live yet.

Yeah, at a certain point the guitar can't really get any better. The only thing that I don't like about mine are the pickups, stock pickups aren't to great, everything else is great. I love the feel of the guitar, and how it overall plays.

the feel of mine is similar to my ibanez which is why i like it though the neck is slightly thicker. mine has passive emgs which im okay with as well. just switch your pickups. thats another difference between the high end and low end. easy fix though. wait. isnt ltd basically the same anyway? dont they just make them in korea or something?

i have small hands

AND SMALL GLOVES IF YOU MUST GIGGLE!!!

not having really much exp, i would want to go for a thinner neck since i have trouble barring and hitting large patterns at the low end

But, i will make a more scholarly post:
Why is a thin neck a bad thing? If i the uninitiated think that thin necks are easier to play, why do "champs" (not sarcastic, but funny) like you not want that?

oh ho

It feels, flimsy, in my hands, and the way I had to wrap my hand around the neck, didn't feel natural, as if I was lobster clawing it, pinching my hands closed too much. Also the necks themselves have this almost coarse feeling to them, I couldn't slide up on them well. Of course, I was playing of low - mid ranged models.

On a completely different note, check out this Mustaine trick:

PRS' are indeed the undisputed king of guitars, but come on, a Fender built for metal? Just because you slap a pair of EMGs into a guitar does not make them built for metal.

HEY NOW

Fenders built for metal (like mine and Links) are sexy

Ibanez are good too

But PRS tops them all
PRS' are indeed the undisputed king of guitars, but come on, a Fender built for metal? Just because you slap a pair of EMGs into a guitar does not make them built for metal.

Thats all that LTD does

All their mid-upper range guitars do

I mean my Fender has an alder body, rosewood fingerboard, and floyd rose. Last time I checked thats not a bad setup for metal

Alder wood has a very light sound to it, not a warm sound like maple or mahogany, fretboard wood, doesn't really matter cause you pretty much have two choices, rosewood or ebony and doesn't add to the sound, and the Floyd Rose, I'll give you that, pretty damn good for metal.

My Fender has Graphite anti string break saddles, locking tuners for the down tuningz, a floyd will be on the way when i get the money for it, a alder body, which makes a better high end sound, but a good low end as well, EMG 81& 81, maple neck with maple fingerboard. The only thing I honestly see that is the cause of it being held back from being "metal" is it is a butter yellow color, which, who fucking cares? It plays well that's all I am looking for right now. I built it to my liking, and I like it, it plays well for what I like lol. You said yourself Blood that it looks gay, but it has a great tone.
