PostSubject: Concert Review: Scion Rock Fest   Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:42 pm

Would have written this a lot earlier but I had essays and shit to work on so yeah.

Well let me start off by saying this was one of the best concerts/festivals I have ever been to. An amazing line-up coupled with it being free and an amazing atmosphere? Can't get much better than that.

Wormrot

Knew about this band before going but didn't actually check them out. Turns out they were pretty damn awesome. Pretty much everything you would want from a grindcore band -- fast songs, great stage presence, and a general fun attitude.

Dark Castle

I gave them a listen a while back and they were pretty decent doom/sludge, so I figured they would be pretty decent live as well. Turns out they were, but holy shit. It was only two people. Guitarist/Vocalist and drummer. And what's pretty awesome is that the frontman was well... not a man. Didn't know that haha, so that was pretty cool.

Fuck the Facts

I've only really heard Disgorge Mexico by this band but I liked it a lot, so I really wanted to see them. They were pretty damn awesome live and I actually recognized a few songs. Fun band.

Intermission

Went to go hit up the merch booth and talked to the singer of Dark Castle for a bit before buying a rad shirt. She was fun to talk to. Also ran into a buddy of mine who I hadn't seen in months, so that was pretty awesome. Went to get some food from the Grill 'em All food truck. Turns out they're really well known and I know why, the burgers were fucking incredible. Like holy shit. Wtf. Also ran into Bob Vigna of Immolation and I chatted with him for a while. He's pretty funny, and his head is shiny even in the dark. This is where my friend and I split up for a bit. Bands were playing at different locations, so we went off to go see Black Breath and I went to go so Agalloch.

Agalloch

Agalloch was pretty much spot on that night. They played Into the Pained Grey, The Watcher's Monolith, Falling Snow, Not Unlike the Waves, and Bloodbirds. Similar set to when I saw them in December, but it was pretty rad catching Falling Snow. I wish next time I see them though they play less material from AAtG and more Pale Folklore and The Mantle. After the set I got a handshake with Don Anderson so that was pretty cool. One lame thing though was that they weren't selling merch so that kinda pissed me off.

Obituary

Holy. Fucking. Shit. I like the band and I expected them to be awesome but they totally blew me away. Easily one of the best live bands I have ever seen. The crowd was fucking intense too and people were crowd surfing and that was cool... for about 10 minutes. They did that throughout all of Obituary's set and it got pretty damn annoying, but just the raw energy put forth by Obituary was more than enough to justify it.

Morbid Angel

Pretty much the main reason why I went in the first place. And wow, that an amazing band. They completely blew me out of the water and were TONS better than I expected. I was skeptical of Dave's vocals but they worked really well. They pretty much played all of my favorite songs and wow. I really don't know what else to say because I can't describe it. Fucking amazing.

For all of you who didn't go, I feel really bad for you. I honestly do because you guys missed one hell of a show.
