I think the other way around. Avant-garde is a term thrown about so much you might as well say progressive... on the other hand you have to be truly original to fall under the experimental bracket.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Jesus, I thought Jamie Saint Merat's drumming on the new Ulcerate album was impressive but fucking hell that was amazing: mixed perfectly too. I loved Gigan anyway (probably my favourite out of the so called 'new wave' of death metal acts) but the new line-up has outdone themselves. Maybe a little to much 'spazz' for some, but the whole thing is mesmerising to my ears.

I'm thinking album of the year so far 10/10.

How mighty have fallen. Would they have written this album if they weren't on Nuclear Blast? Regardless this is drivel: I expect Romeo wrote most of the riffs in his sleep, such a lackluster effort: so much more mainstream, hell even the album cover has metalcore lovers coming in their pants. And the fucking guitar tone is goddamn annoying, jesus you'd think such a talented guitaist would have more pride. Where is the band that made Odyssey? Sell outs... such a shame to lose a previously awesome act.

i thought they were on spv? when did this happen? (just googled it- fuck ive been out of the loop. since 2009? fuck lol) btw. guitar tone is pretty similiar to paradise lost so i dont know what your talking about haha. and what metalcore you talking about? they not as neo-classical as they used to be but the cool progressive elements are something i enjoy. i plan on giving the whole thing a listen. This seems to be a continuation from what they did on paradise lost which i liked. just finished song. bridge melodies where pretty sick. i liked it.

I didn't like PL much either. I never said they were metalcore: the cover is very reminiscent of several core albums however.

If you listen to Odyssey and then this it's like two entirely different bands, one awesome, one boring. How can you like those riffs, they're so fucking flat? They've lost so much of their character.

Idk. they interest me. i like time changes and whatnot. plus riffs aren't the only elements in a song. Im a melody person as well. And some of those were pretty sick. Paradise Lost had some catchy fucking tracks.

It wasn't terrible but the lyrics leave something to be desired.
