PostSubject: Copyright Infringement   Sat May 21, 2011 2:03 am

Sorry i haven't been on much. Some stuff has happened.

Anyways, i haven't logged into my Comcast email account for some time & of course when i get into it i have this unread message saying something about a copyright infringement. It was back in Feb. So im thinkin wtf? really?

Long story short it had to do with a download 'Paranormal Activity 2' & im wondering how they got that information or even how they managed to get the program i used to dl it. It's as if someone hacked into my computer. Question is, is this even legal? It wasn't even me who uploaded it all i did was dl the damn movie. Thankfully i hardly ever dl movies anymore if whoever the hell can tell i dl this kind of stuff i won't bother with movies anymore. Let alone i dl a bunch of music but yet at the same time if they're a good band i'll try to promote them.

Comcast threatened to cancel my service, but i guess it never went through. I was lucky, but at the same time i wasn't even notified. Something also tells me it wasn't even Comcast who sent me it, someone could have hacked into my account & placed this info. Either way i have a feeling i was hacked into cuz one day my virus scanner was going nuts a while back from unauthorized port scans.

Anyone had an issue like this before?

I agree. What bothers me is they want you to 'buy' something that you're not really familiar with. When i did have money i'd buy all these random movies but i got sick of buying worthless crap i wasted my money on.

I have spent over $7,000 on cds alone that i don't listen to anymore. I bought the blu ray set of the Resident Evil movies this year even though i have them on dvd already & this is the thanks i get? The thing is i think Paramount is the one who did Paranormal Activity 2. Well if i hear any more out of this problem i guarantee you they'll regret it.

And it's not like i even get anything out of it, i didn't sell or distribute any copies for money. I also hear that the RIAA wants torrents shut down, they want to block any searchable sites.

Yes, if i enjoy an album i'll go out & buy it, when i have the money of course. If they don't want me steeling their music or movies for free, perhaps they should give me a job? I'll totally work just to buy media. Unfortunately i have to work to pay bills instead which i can't even accomplish.

^ exactly, well i didn't think it was that bad but what if i did think it was terrible. Next time i buy something media related i'll drive all the way to the directors/writers home & demand i get a refund.

In the first movie they said it was based on a true story or whatever so im thinking this is really a documentary of sorts. What gave the movie away though was i think when they started seeing footprints. I was thinkin wtf, now when i think about it i think the girl that was 'possessed' by a demon was an ICP fan.

and the only thing i hated about the 2nd movie was the fact it was so damn predictable.. i realized i was watching a 'prequel' to the events from the first movie.

^ they're probably the ones who hacked into my computer in the first place. I see why they jack the prices up so they can spend it on hacking equipment.

They also tried to shut me down a few years back when i went over too much in bandwidth. They had a cap limit trying to keep free music from floating around. I was never told this & i was about to rip them a new one when they 'finally' announced about the cap limit, so i didn't bother. People got mad when the limits were 'inaccurate' & when iTunes was on the rise, people got upset the cap was too low. Comcast is going to lose customers really quick if they continue doing this. The next time i hear something about something 'i did' im going to blame Comcast & i guarantee they'll be shut down.

They have dealt with privacy issues in the past like this: http://www.zdnet.com/news/comcast-hit-with-privacy-violation-lawsuit/123049

So they will lose their reputation pretty quickly.

They don't need hacking equipment or anything, nor is it expensive to do that. They simply look at the websites you have visited, which they have access to.

Ah, well problem was they knew i was using a certain program on my computer. Plus again i was getting port scans like crazy during one day. Comcast may have not been the culprit it might have been "the Digital Millennium Copyright Act" which is i guess is the accuser. (i just went back into my email to take screenshots just in-case i need some kind of proof) I still think that's wrong though, them having access to information that i look at on the internet.

Yeah it's a shame, either way i cancelled or stopped many of my downloads & only leaving a select few that would keep me under the radar.

I realized something when i looked at this: http://www.realcavsfans.com/showthread.php?21635-Woman-charged-1.9-million-for-downloading-music

You can't really get into trouble for downloading music, it's only when sharing it is what they look out for. 24 songs? She most likely didn't know that after you download others download the song as well. My guess is she had Kazaa running at start up & didn't realize other people were downloading them. I forget about having uTorrent open sometimes & i tend to leave my computer running to allow other downloads to finish. I'm pretty sure that i was sharing Paranormal Activity 2 for quite some time before i got caught sharing it. I just won't dl anymore movies that was just released. It's still bull they can catch you doin it but if your helping with the distribution of it, your considered as an accessory.
