I think eventually I'm going to like virtually all music. Right now I like almost everything I hear. It's insane.

When I do the FB rock chicks descend on my profile page request show. I never get a week without a request to a band I never thought I'd give the time of day but when the music and lyrics are right they are right. So much to the embarressment of my 13 yr old son mum not only likes lots of the bands he does but sometimes even knows what he will be listening to next! Sad but I'm not a bad mum, for his own good when he comes into say "mum you have to hear this" I pretend that I have never heard of TFON or Machinehead or any of the hundreds of tracks I listen to when he's at school!

He is way smarter than me and when I choose to be I am way smarter than him. I know if my mum had taken me to see Alice Cooper, his beloved Ramstien and Iron Maiden in one weekend, like I did last year. I'd have the coolest mum ever and cut the attitude a bit!

(guess who's room isn't done?)

I saw Slipknot live with my mom and dad (divorced) when I was in high school, and it wasn't my idea. My dad listened to heavy metal and the such when he was a kid, and my mom likes things more on the rock/nu-metal side. I kept to myself as much as I could though. I liked a combination of music from both my dad's and mom's side, and more.

I don't think my dad ever bothered to listen to much music in his days. I never seen him buy a cd or tape. My mom however would buy cds. The only thing i really took after is her metal taste (well it was 80's christian metal). I was also heavily interested in techno/electronica as well as the trendy nu metal/alt metal or industrial stuff.

That kind of stuff i pretty much kept to myself, once i played a Korn record & my mom thought it was disturbing lol. I wonder what she would think of with the bands i like now.

My dad NEVER liked my music, no matter what kind it was. He even hated Beethoven the actual classical symphony! All I ever heard him listen too (way too much) Pipes and drums of the then Scottish regiments of our army or the odd bit of country! Mum was Scottish folk music roots but she did like Buddy Holly. Not exactly what a rocking teen in the 80s wanted to hear! Mum is also a bleeding hypocrite as after my dad died, she came out as a Meatloaf fan, Cds, Concerts the lot!

"Hi mum whose cd is that?"

"mine"

Shocked

"No mum seriously you shouldn't touch my brothers cds he will go mad!"

"IT SERIOUSLY IS MY CD! AN GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT TICKETS TO SEE HIM,LOOK!! "

:suspect: "HEY BROTHER!! WHAT HAPPENED TO MUM? What have you done to her?

"oh no this is nothing to do with me sis I thought you had drugged her or something!"

*slap to brothers head*

"Don't be stupid, I'd never put her on Meatloaf. Iron Maiden maybe?

*Scottish brother and sister in unison* "ALIENS!"

As you get older you still listen to the new stuff and hunt down the bands you were forced to miss when you were a kid. I can listen to anything so long as it's good. I can only take one country track at a time though! I also have no idea who in Scotland first heard bagpipes and said "oh a new instument!" (unless he was thinking medievil torture and someone had went nuts!)

right now I am hooked on Lynard Skynard's 'God and Bullets' this week but next week I might be listening to Avenge Sevenfold? Or any of the thousands of songs I have on my ipod!

music's music Like The Killers - Human! I know a few fans who hate it but I reckon it is a kiss ass track, it has everything. Dancerock with lyrics that are sound it is brilliant I think. My son just shakes his head but he doesn't hear what I do. A great Dance track fighting an awesome Rock track! Like a lot of Love Hate mixes it works!

All music is different for everybody.

Guess who did his room to get back his music (ipod)?

See thats the Power of Music at work right there!

What wouldn't you do to get your music back if it was suddenly taken away? (apart from looking for a 38 and the evil that could do that to someone!lol)

My mom wasn't really down for all the new metal I like, and my dad was kinda indifferent. But I listen to a little bit of everything so it's not like I was constantly shoving it down their throats

My dad listens to chart music...it's ridiculous...I have a more mature taste than he does and he constantly tries to convince me the only reason I don't like it is that I'm not open minded enough....

My mum's taste is slightly better, she just likes a bunch of 80s alternative stuff. A lot of it is complete and utter gash but she likes the odd good band. I'd never get her into anything with harsh vocals though.

Main reason i don't like it, it's too simple & not enough adrenaline pumping. I think all i listen to is metal. Well.. IF isn't metal anymore so (or at least trve). The rest is a form of metal or another. Did i mention im into electronica stuff? But i still hate the top 40.

Even on last.fm the top 300 artists for chicago is horrible: http://www.last.fm/place/United+States/Chicago/charts

I listen to some of those bands but none of them are even in my top 100 artists on last.fm

I don't despise it as much as I used to. I kind of get it at least now. It's light entertainment for people who aren't all that passionate about music. It's like how you wouldn't expect someone who's never watched anything but the most mainstream films to like Machete. I still get annoyed at how big the pop stars get though and the few people I've met who actually do feel strongly about it piss me off. The music is still awful as well but I'm not gonna despise someone for listening to it. I get why they listen to it, I guess is what I'm trying to say.
