PostSubject: Good Coverable Melodeath Songs?   Thu Jul 14, 2011 12:29 pm

I'm forming a melodeath band and I need some songs to cover. So far I have Colony by In Flames, Monochromatic Stains by Dark Tranquillity and Demon Of The Fall by Opeth (not melodeath, I know, but I wanted to do an Opeth song). Anyone got any more suggestions? I quite want to do and Insomnium song as well but I can't find many tabs for them and their songs are quite difficult to figure out.

Oh my God I just found the sickest song, but I don't know if you would be able to cover it.

At The Gates sounds alright though I don't know them too well. Carcass...wow, that sounded pretty freaking awesome. I may look into that a little more and see if I can do one of their songs.

I was thinking of maybe doing maybe one or two OSDM songs too like Death or something.

Bravo VR...I should've seen that coming...

Now I need to repair the damage I've done.

Good melodic death metal songs to cover...hmmmm.

For some reason I can't think of any right now. The ones you put down so far looked good though.

I agree with doing an Insomnium song though. Have to do Insomnium. Maybe Be'lakor.

This one sounds like it would pretty amazing to do. Like I said I can't find any tabs for it though and I'm a lazy person who can't be bothered figuring things out for himself.

Yeah that's one of my favorites too. Very powerful chorus.

I suppose it relies on us getting a decent clean vocalist too. If we can't I might just do some parts but I'm a much better guitarist than I am a vocalist so I'd rather not.

I think the melodic / progressive / blackened death metal whole thing with a great clean vocalist rocks myself. The whole gothenburg style melodic death metal thing has already been pretty much mastered by certain bands so it's hard to see how it could be taken further, and then there are also the other more power metal slanted bands. I think the progressive side of things still has plenty of possibility. Good clean vocalists might be hard to come by like you said though.

To be honest I think a good harsh vocalist will be harder. Most people will probably just come along with shitty metalcore vocals and no clue what melodeath is. If we can find a good one who can sing too it would be amazing. I could do some vocals but I'm not great and I'm terrible at dividing my attention between vocals and guitar.

Oh yeah that's true haha. I forgot about how popular metalcore is. Yeah harsh yelling or deathcore vocals don't sound very interesting or good for melodic death metal. At least not likely. Good luck with that. Maybe there is a girl with really good extreme vocals. Some talent waiting to be found. I don't know this is pretty random.

random quip: Also the more death metal melodic death metal bands. I guess that would be more a matter of how amazing the riffs and sounds are. I haven't heard much of the death metal melodic death metal.

I thought of covering some of the melodic Dismember stuff like this.

I'll second Monochromatic Stains (and shit if you want a keyboard part played I can probably do it)

Yessss.

But yeah, gothenburg melodeath is pretty bland and generic aside from Dark Tranquillity and very early In Flames.

I think we'll just leave out keyboards. I can't write for keyboards and I don't wanna try and force myself by adding a keyboard player we don't particularly need. We'll be doing tons of live shows before we record anything but if I need any keys when we do I'll let you know. Very Happy

Unrelated, I know, but I'm working on a melodeath/modern metal version of bark at the moon. It has some of my favorite riffs so I wanted to give it my own twist.

As for melodeath songs, it all really depends on what style you want to do. I think covering some Amon Amarth, like Prediction of Warfare or Runes to My Memory, would be badass

I thought of doing something similar, Axe, covering a more well known song in a melodeath style. I think Fear Of The Dark could work quite well.
