PostSubject: The last Harry Potter (Minor Spoilers)   Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:40 pm

I walked into this movie 10 minutes late. At first I was like godamn, in the middle of another talking scene where the kids are interviewing a mysterious guy about whatever the hell. But the pacing gets quickly very fast and stays constant almost throughout the entire movie. I have read all the books and seen all the movies. I have not enjoyed a Harry Potter movie since the 3rd one. This movie has enough strength to be on its own. What I mean by this is if there was no Harry Potter series and this was just an individual movie it would be fantastic. Now don't get me wrong if you haven't seen the other movies you probably wouldn't get a lot of it.

If this movie was a bit more violent it would be outstanding. They try really hard to maintain the PG rating. There is violence and blood, but it is really toned down. The book kills off a number of main characters, and I don't think you see any of them getting killed. The viewer is just notified of it at some point. Obviously I can't expect LOTR action because they are just shooting spells at each other but they definitely could have made things quite interesting with a bit of gore. Can you imagine Neville getting pissed off and taking someone's arm off? It would be great. But it is kind of weird when you see everyone bloody at the end and you never really see anyone get cut. My girlfriend still cried like 8 times during the movie. I went into this movie expecting to be disappointed, but was very happy with the fast pace.

Can't believe you've not enjoyed any since the 3rd one though. I mean, they've not been anywhere near as good as this one for a while but they were all (maybe with the exception of OOTP) at least quite enjoyable. I thought GOF was really good.

The books are all better than the films but the films are still pretty enjoyable I think.

I haven't seen a Harry Potter film since the second one and I haven't read a book since the third.

The books are boring, go read some Plato instead.

Yeah yeah Plato etc etc but Harry Potter! I started reading them when the books first came out and indeed, the first movie was kinda magical. I felt like many of the movies focussed on the wrong things. I.e. 30 minutes on the Yule Ball when it was one chapter of the book. The characters did grow on me (movie wise) and this conclusion was well done.
Even so, what other series of movies this LONG has been this good? Land Before Time? To keep the same cast is amazing as well. Sigh.

I wouldn't think going to the cinema alone is creepy. I've never done it myself but if I really wanted to see something and no-one would go with me I'd do it.

The film's worth it anyway. It's basically one huge 2 hour climax.

Saw it in Imax a few weeks ago for free (basically, I'm a whore :3). Was quite good.

I read all the books ages ago. Personally I think they did a very good job with the series as a whole, I missed the sixth and seventh movie, but meh.

I've been watching a ton of movies in theaters lately >_>
