Saw them at Summer Slaughter last Tuesday, they put on an incredible show, got to meet them afterwards at their booth. Love these guys.

Picked up their new album, Agony, and I am extremely disappointed with it. On their last two albums they combined classical and technical death metal in a uniquely, good way, it all flowed so well, the technicalities were not wanky, and the classical elements weren't corny, in short, everything was in balance. But this new album, I find it awful. To me, it sounds pretty much like a track of pure classical style music with muddy, boring death metal mixed on top of it. The piano overwhelms everything on the tracks, the vocals are barely noticeable, guitar riffs seem pretty nonexistent, any technicalities are not there. It feels like there's no difference in the songs, they all blend together into a long, monotonous track, with the only break being a piano solo as the final track, though that's nothing new, they did the same on Oracles, but that album the songs at least had character. One thing I use to like about their vocals was how monotone they were, which were great, because they didn't overwhelm the music behind, and went well together, but now, they're trying to do too much with them, too much of the bassist doing his opera singing, it was cool on Mafia for a few tracks, but not on this, being nearly every track. I could keep going on, and on about things I don't like about this album, but the fact that I can't think of any positive feedback about it is testament to how awful it.

Listen for yourselves, I think you'd agree.
Like I said, I love these guys, but this album is so damn disappointing.

Completely disagree with the opinion on the new one.

And I have to say, I'm glad they didn't release an Oracles part 2. Very Happy

Oracles > Mafia > Agony

Fuck Agony, it's nothing like Oracles.
Oracles is an incredible album.

But I've been listening to it all day, so we'll see if my opinion changes.

I like Agony so far actually, they are really developing their own sound quite well.

only reason people wouldn't like this but like their previous albums is the distinct change and the adversity it brings: FA are FA and everything they've done is pretty incredible thus far

It's good, but it just hasn't blown my mind like Oracles, nothing really has popped out at me.

Agony > Mafia > Oracles

In my opinion at leas, they're all amazing albums. Oracles is a great album, but to me, every track in Agony is specifically very memorable.

Thing I don't get, Bloodbeast, is giving them close listens...Agony for the most part actually does have very similar riffing. For a tech-death band, Fleshgod Apocalypse isn't wanky at all. The huge thing is they are extremely fast...that is something that definitely didn't change.

Mafia has the benefit of being a killer EP due to the fact that there is not a bad song on it, and Abyssal is just ridiculously good to my ears...

It's probably going to be in my top 10 this year because of how much I like it, along with Ulcerate, uneXpect and Project Hate. Very Happy

See, I think the exact opposite. Every track on Oracles stood out to me, but on Agony they all just seem to blur together.

love these guys, but i have to agree with bloodbeast.
oracles was epic.
mafia was good for the overall sound they used, but didnt inspire me to kick ass nearly as much as oracles
agony is something completely different. it isnt fleshgod like i know them. it almost seems like melodic brutal death, not the symphonic sound they claim they are going for
