PostSubject: Brutal Death That Doesn't Blow   Tue Aug 09, 2011 1:15 pm

Of all the sub-genres of death metal, I must say that brutal death is the one laden with the most shit, but I've compiled a list of some bands from the genre that I believe are actually quite good, I know most of you don't like this genre, but hey, what the hell, I'm bored. Some of these are reposts.

Decrepit Birth
This is from their newest album, it's much different than their older material, but I like the direction they're taking it.

Deeds of Flesh
Once again, from their newest album, but this song just show how polished and great they've become.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAwMewgJjEU

Hour of Penance
Featuring some of the members from Fleshgod Apocalypse, though I believe it sounds nothing like them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZsCBBgo6gE

Malodorous
This was only a project band who released only one album, it features vocalist Big Chocolate. My main attraction to this are the vocals and the drummer. (I believe it to an actual drummer, and not a machine)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeuYyQzmiW0

Skinless
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPt4VaTr4Zs

Soils of Fate
These guys are the biggest bunch of wiggers out there, Swedish wiggers at that, but they makes some good brutal death.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmBj91PLM-g

Suffocation
What needs to be said about these guys?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHXKVlD_X1o

Spawn of Possession
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z79-Zp6A7o

Vulvectomy
Their samples make me giggle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfwDueDd5Ng

Hope you enjoy them.

Decrepit Birth is pretty cool, a lot of it lacks memorable riffs though. Suffocation on the other hand is fantastic. Great brutality and without sacrificing decent riffs. I don't really know too many of the others that well so I'll definitely give them a listen soon

My generic additions...

Severed Savior
Pretty solid stuff.

Gorgasm
Such a fucking great song.

Looks like a pretty nice list.

I wouldn't necessary call Suffocation brutal death metal. Plus some of these are tech death/brutal death w/e.

Yeah, because technical brutal death metal isn't brutal death metal. And if Cannibal Corpse counts as brutal death metal then there is no way Suffocation doesn't. Sure there are radically different styles of brutal death metal, but it's all death metal that's brutal.

I wouldn't call CC brutal death either.

The singer's neck is bigger than his head. Am I missing something here? No, I'm not. I understand brutal death metal means things like Defeated Sanity etc. Just saying the term can also be used more loosely.

I don't know. Brutal death metal is a redundant genre anyway.

Speaking of which, Defeated Sanity could be added here. Solid is solid.

They're as solid as solid can be.

While I agree the genre is really redundant, I believe the ones I posted are all a uniquely different from one another.

And tech death and brutal death are often one in the same.

Out of your original post, the only "true" brutal death metal bands I enjoyed were Skinless and Hour of Penance, and even then I already knew about them. Even then Skinless only has ONE good album. Not the biggest fan of Deeds of Flesh for some reason, but I realize they're pretty solid at whatever it is they do (a boring Suffocation sorta).

Decrepit Birth is honestly a mish-mash of Cynic, Suffocation, and Sound of Perseverance era Death, but not really a fan. Kinda brutal-ish, but not really, falls more along the lines of tech death. Same with Spawn of Possession as they are more tech death than anything. Malodorous was goddamn deathcore.

Now Soils of Fate and Vulvectomy were brutal death metal, except they just sucked.

Hour of Penance was awesome, but it was definitely to be expected since it features members of FGA. Also Malodorous was deathcore man. No riffs to be found in that song

Brutal Death has always been such a hit or miss genre to me, mainly for the fact I find it EXTREMELY repetitive, though, as always Kc, you came through with flying colors in terms of good bands haha.

As far as brutal death goes, Defeated Sanity and the first Gorgasm album is top notch. Another good brutal death metal band is Lykathea Aflame, but they're like "melodic" brutal death metal.

I also like Deeds of Flesh. Their older material is worth checking out as well as their newer material. So heavy, adamant, and delicious.

Deeds of Flesh are the masters of apathetic/boring death metal.

See, I think Deeds of Flesh was one of the best bands on the list.

They have some pretty solid everything going on.
